A window manager is system software that controls the placement and appearance of window (computing), windows within a windowing system in a graphical user interface. A graphical widget (also graphical control element or control) in a graphical user interface is an element of interaction, such as a button or a scroll bar. Controls are software components that a computer user interacts with through direct manipulation to read or edit information about an application. A multiple-document interface (MDI) is a graphical user interface in which multiple windows reside under a single parent window.
