Benedetto Cairoli
Benedetto Cairoli (28 January 1825 – 8 August 1889) was an Italian politician, who served as Prime Minister of Italy for 2 years. Biography Cairoli was born at Pavia, Lombardy. From 1848 until the completion of Italian unity in 1870, his whole activity was devoted to the ''Risorgimento'', as Garibaldian officer, political refugee, anti-Austrian conspirator and deputy to parliament. He commanded a volunteer company under Garibaldi in 1859 and 1860, being wounded slightly at Calatafimi and severely at Palermo in the latter year. In 1866, with the rank of colonel, he assisted Garibaldi in the campaign in the County of Tyrol, in 1867 fought at Mentana, and in 1870 conducted the negotiations with Bismarck, during which the German chancellor is alleged to have promised Italy possession of Rome and of her natural frontiers if the Democratic party could prevent an alliance between Victor Emmanuel and Napoleon. Cesare Bonelli
Cesare Amedeo Augusto Bonelli (3 January 1821 in Turin – 1 October 1904 in Orvieto) was an Italian politician and general, veteran of the Italian Wars of Independence. He was Senator of the Kingdom of Italy in the XIII legislature, and held the position of Minister of War in the first, second and third Cairoli government. Early life He was born in Turin on 3 January 1821, son of the famous naturalist Franco Andrea Bonelli and Fernanda d'Ancona. Between 1830 and 1841 he attended the ''Accademia Reale di Torino'', then completed his education at the '' Scuola di applicazione''. Guido Baccelli
Guido Baccelli (25 November 1830 – 10 January 1916) was an Italian physician and statesman. One of the most renowned Italian physicians of the late 19th century, he was Minister of Education of the then young Kingdom of Italy for six times and once Minister of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce, for a total period of almost ten years, between 1881 and 1903. He was a teacher to Augusto Murri. Together with Italian surgeon Francesco Durante, Baccelli promoted the construction of the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome. Francesco De Sanctis
Francesco de Sanctis (28 March 1817 – 29 December 1883) was an Italian literary critic, scholar and politician, leading critic and historian of Italian language and literature during the 19th century. Biography De Sanctis was born in the southern Italian town of Morra Irpina (renamed Morra De Sanctis in his honor in 1937) to a family of middle-class landowners. His father was a doctor in law and his two paternal uncles, one a priest and the other a medic, were exiled for having participated in the Carbonari Uprisings of 1820–1821. After completing his high school studies in nearby Naples, he was educated at the Italian language institute in Naples founded by Marquis Basilio Puoti (1782–1847). Luigi Miceli (7 June 1824 in Longobardi, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies – 30 December 1906, in Rome), was an Italian patriot, politician and a military figure, a capitan in the conflicts of the Risorgimento and a leading military figure to the Italian Liberation and Unification in 1861. Biography Luigi Miceli was a young 22-year-old lawyer when he became a member of Giovane Italia (1844), he was the leading figure in the preparation to the Calabrian insurrection in 1847 and 1848. Emilio Ferrero
Emilio Maurizio Ferrero (Cuneo, 13 January 1819 – Florence, 1 December 1887) was an Italian politician and general. He was a senator of the Kingdom of Italy in the 14th legislature. He served as Minister of War of the Kingdom of Italy in the third Cairoli government and in the fourth, fifth and sixth Depretis governments. Early life and career A student of the Royal Academy of Turin, he took part in the First Italian War of Independence as a captain, earning an honorable mention for the siege of Peschiera del Garda and the silver medal of military valor at the battle of Novara.
