The Xx
The xx are an English indie rock band from Wandsworth, London, formed in 2005. The band consists of Romy Madley Croft (guitar, vocals), Oliver Sim (bass guitar, vocals), Jamie Smith, also known as Jamie xx (beats, MPC, record production), and formerly Baria Qureshi (keyboard, guitar). They are known for their distinctive minimalist sound blending indie rock, indie electronic, indie pop, dream pop and electro-rock and the dual-vocalist set-up of Madley Croft and Sim. Their music employs soft echoed guitar, prominent bass, light electronic beats and ambient soundscape backgrounds. The band was formed when Madley Croft and Sim met during their time at Elliott School, with Baria Qureshi joining the same year and Smith in the following year. After posting demos on their Myspace page, they drew the attention of the Beggars Group-owned label Young Turks (now Young). Ilosaarirock
The Ilosaarirock Festival is an annual rock festival held on the second weekend of July in Joensuu, Eastern Finland. Founded in 1971, Ilosaarirock is the second-oldest rock festival in Finland still active, and one of the oldest in Europe. In 2007 the event had 21,000 daily visitors. The festival sold out in advance every year from 1998 to 2011. Ilosaarirock is an entity of events that in its entirety, with clubs and side-events, spans Friday to Sunday. The actual festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday. The festival site, called Laulurinne, stages performances on five separate stages with over 50 artists. Electro-rock

After a break from touring for their 2009 self-titled first album, the xx's band members began to write songs individually before they recorded ''Coexist'' from November 2011 to May 2012. ''xx'' is the debut studio album by the English indie pop band the xx. It was released on 14 August 2009 by Young Turks (record label), Young Turks, then an imprint label of XL Recordings, and recorded from December 2008 to February 2009 at XL Recordings#XL Studio, the label's in-house studio in London. Producing the album, Jamie xx, Jamie Smith of the xx created electronic beats for the songs on his laptop and audio mixing (recorded music), mixed them in a detailed process with the audio engineer Rodaidh McDonald, who attempted to reproduce the intimate, unembellished quality of the band's original demo (music), demos. Roderick William George "Rodaidh" McDonald is a Scottish record producer, and record company executive. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and currently resides in Los Angeles, California, United States. Young (formerly known as Young Turks) is a British independent record label that sits in the Beggars Group of labels launched by Caius Pawson in 2006. It has grown from an imprint of XL Recordings into a successful and influential label now partnered with XL and operates across a range of genres. The label's current roster includes the xx, FKA twigs, Sampha, Jamie xx, Koreless and Kamasi Washington. History In 2004, Caius Pawson supplied DJs and sound equipment for a series of all-night dance parties he called Young Turks.
