The Wedding Present
The Wedding Present are an English indie rock group formed in 1985 in Leeds, England, by members of The Lost Pandas. The band has been led by vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band's only constant member. Closely linked to the C86 scene, the band has charted a total of eighteen singles in the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, including a historic run of twelve singles – one for each month – in 1992, which tied Elvis Presley's record for most top 40 hits in a single year. Caldas De Reis
Caldas de Reis is a municipality in the north of the province of Pontevedra, in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Caldas. Cinerama (band)
Cinerama is an English indie pop band, headed up by David Gedge, the frontman for The Wedding Present. The band is known for combining rock guitar music with string and woodwind sounds.. ''Chart Attack'', 20 November 2001 Career Originally formed in 1998, Cinerama began as a duo comprising David Gedge and Sally Murrell. Initial releases were stylistically different from The Wedding Present, featuring soundtrack-like arrangements with string and woodwind accompaniment. Paul Dorrington
Paul Dorrington is an English guitarist and bassist best known for his 1991-1995 tenure in The Wedding Present. Dorrington joined Sheffield group AC Temple in 1985,Strong, Martin C. (2003) ''The Great Indie Discography'', Canongate, , p. 193, 567 and recorded ''Rorschach Blot Test'', a live compilation album featuring The Dustdevils and Kilgore Trout. In 1988 he formed Tse Tse Fly with Mark Goodrham and future Wedding Present and Cinerama guitarist Simon Cleave. In 1991, Paul Dorrington joined The Wedding Present on guitar, recording '' The Hit Parade 1'', ''Hit Parade 2'' and '' Watusi'' albums before leaving in 1995. Simon Smith (drummer)
Simon Smith has been the drummer with several British Indie rock bands, most notably The Wedding Present from Leeds, which he joined in 1988, and also worked with its offshoot The Ukrainians. Career Simon Smith started out briefly as a member of The Chorus with Peter Solowka, who also became a member of The Wedding Present. The Chorus released tracks on the AAZ record label from 1983 to 1985 including the 7" double A side single "These Stones" / "Diamond Mine". Simon left The Chorus to join stable mates The Sinister Cleaners in 1985, replacing the drum machine that had featured on their earlier releases. He released 3 12" EPs with The Sinister Cleaners and toured the UK and Europe with them from 1985 to 1987. Peter Solowka
Peter Solowka or Solovka (, , born late 1959 in Oldham) is a musician of Ukrainians, Ukrainian and Yugoslavian descent. He has been involved in music since 1985, most notably as guitarist with The Wedding Present from their inception until 1991, and then with The Ukrainians until the present day. The Wedding Present was formed when Peter joined with old school friend David Gedge, Keith Gregory and Shaun Charman. David Gedge
David Lewis Gedge (born 23 April 1960, in Bramley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England) is an English musician and songwriter. Gedge's lyrics explore themes such as romantic love and heartbreak. According to Michael Sutton of ''AllMusic'', his lyrics are "often written from a seemingly autobiographical perspective and sung in a dejected, conversational manner." Early life Gedge grew up in Middleton, Greater Manchester, in the area known as Top of Hebers.
