The Three Tenors
The Three Tenors were an operatic singing trio, active between 1990 and 2003, and termed a supergroup (a title normally reserved for rock and pop groups) consisting of Italian Luciano Pavarotti and Spaniards Plácido Domingo and José Carreras. The trio began their collaboration with a performance at the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome, Italy, on 7 July 1990, the eve of the 1990 FIFA World Cup final, watched by a global television audience of around 800 million. The image of three tenors in formal evening dress singing in a World Cup concert captivated the global audience. The recording of this debut concert became the best-selling classical album of all time and led to additional performances and live albums. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is an affinity group for contributors with shared goals within the Wikimedia movement. Tibor Rudas
Tibor Rudas (6 February 1920 – 8 September 2014), was a Hungarian-born American entrepreneur, known for conceptualizing Luciano Pavarotti performances in sports arena settings and later signing the "Three Tenors" José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti to appear in a series of worldwide arena concerts. Born in Budapest, he was imprisoned in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during World War II by the Nazis. Prior to his work with Pavarotti, Rudas was active in Atlantic City, New Jersey, booking acts for the Superstar Theater and the Steel Pier. The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (literal English translation: 'Florence Musical May') is an annual Italian arts festival in Florence, including a notable opera festival, under the auspices of the Opera di Firenze. Zubin Mehta
Zubin Mehta (born 29 April 1936) is an Indian conductor of Western classical music. He is music director emeritus of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) and conductor :wikt:emeritus, emeritus of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mehta's father was the founder of the Bombay Symphony Orchestra, and Mehta received his early musical education from him. When he was 18, he enrolled in the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Vienna state music academy, from which he graduated after three years with a diploma as a conductor. Herbert Chappell
Herbert Reginald Chappell (18 March 1934 – 20 October 2019) was a British conductor, composer and film-maker, best known for his television scores. Education and early career Born in Bristol, Herbert Chappell's first musical training was as a chorister in the Bristol Cathedral, cathedral. At Oriel College, Oxford he briefly studied music with Egon Wellesz. His contemporaries there included Richard Ingrams, Ken Loach and Dudley Moore, and Chappell wrote incidental music for many college theatre productions. Following Oxford he taught for several years at Cumnor House Sussex school in Haywards Heath.
