The Swedish Elitserien
Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan. The season ends with the finals in the beginning of May and the winning team qualifies directly to EHF European League and the losing team qualifies for the EHF European Cup. Karlskrona (, , ) is a locality and the seat of Karlskrona Municipality, Blekinge County, Sweden with a population of 66,675 in 2018. It is also the capital of Blekinge County. Karlskrona is known as Sweden's only baroque city and is host to Sweden's largest naval base and the headquarters of the Swedish Coast Guard. Hammarby IF Handboll
Hammarby IF Handboll is the Team handball, handball section of Sweden, Swedish sports club Hammarby IF from Stockholm. Hammarby IF currently play in Handbollsligan, Sweden's first tier. The club won three consecutive List of Swedish men's handball champions, Swedish championships from 2006 to 2008. History The handboll section of Hammarby IF was founded on 31 October 1939. During the 1950s, the handboll section ceased its activities. The club made a comeback in the 1970s when another local team, Lundens BK, merged with the club. Hammarby were promoted to Handbollsligan, Elitserien, Sweden's top tier, for the first time in 2002. Eskilstuna Guif IF, commonly known as Eskilstuna Guif or Guif, is a handball club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. It has reached the national championship finals on four occasions but never won and currently competes in Handbollsligan, the top domestic handball league. History The club was founded on 26 May 1896 as ''Godtemplarnas Ungdoms- och Idrottsförening'' (). GUIF was one of the first sports clubs in Eskilstuna after Eskilstuna GAK. Handball was introduced in 1932. They have reached the Swedish Championship final four times (1997, 2001, 2009 and 2011), but lost on each occasion. They also finished first in the regular season in 2011–12 and 2013–14, but were eliminated in the semi-finals in both these seasons. Märsta () is a suburb of List of metropolitan areas in Sweden, Metropolitan Stockholm, a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Sigtuna Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 27,034 inhabitants in 2015.
