The Sports
The Sports were an Australian rock group which performed and recorded between 1976 and 1981. Mainstay members were Stephen Cummings on lead vocals and Robert Glover on bass guitar, with long-term members such as Paul Hitchins on drums, Andrew Pendlebury on lead guitar and vocals, and Martin Armiger on guitar. Their style was similar to both 1970s British pub rock bands (such as Brinsley Schwarz) and British new wave (such as Elvis Costello). The Sports' top forty singles are "Who Listens to the Radio", " Don't Throw Stones", " Strangers on a Train" and "How Come" . Their top 20 releases on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart are '' Don't Throw Stones'' (February 1979), '' Suddenly'' (March 1980) and '' Sondra'' (May 1981). Sondra is the fourth and final studio album by Australian rock and pop band The Sports, released in May 1981. The album peaked at number 20 on the Australian Kent Music Report The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July .... Suddenly is the third studio album by Australian rock and pop band The Sports, released in March 1980. The album peaked at number 13 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Reception Steve Schnee from AllMusic said "Although they are fully formed three-minute slices of Aussie pop/rock, the melodies aren't as immediate and engaging as before. There are moments that are equal to the previous album, including "Strangers on a Train," "Never Catch Her," "Oh Mama No," and the title track, but those high points don't occur quite as often, adding "through it all, Stephen Cummings' 'angry young man' vocals are energetic and spirited and the band is tight and inspiring." Luis Feliu from The Canberra Times, opined that it showed "trimmed up reggae-favoured tunes and souped-up straight, melodic rockers... ndhas its fair share of goodies" while he "had reservations about the overall slickness, and excesses in production for the sake of commercial acceptance" by Solley. Don't Throw Stones is the second studio album by Australian rock and pop band The Sports, released in February 1979; a limited edition with a bonus 7" promotional single of "Reckless". The album peaked at number 9 on the Australian Kent Music Report and was certified gold. In 2010, the album was listed at number 51 on the 100 Best Australian Albums. Brinsley Schwarz
Brinsley Schwarz were a 1970s English pub rock band, named after their guitarist Brinsley Schwarz. With Nick Lowe on bass and vocals, keyboardist Bob Andrews and drummer Billy Rankin, the band evolved from the 1960s pop band Kippington Lodge. They were later augmented by Ian Gomm on guitar and vocals. Formation Brinsley Schwarz (guitar, piano, vocals) originally met Nick Lowe at Woodbridge School where they played in school bands with Barry Landeman (keyboards, vocals) and Phil Hall (guitar). In 1964, whilst still at school, they toured RAF bases in Germany as "Sounds 4+1". On leaving school, Schwarz formed "Three's A Crowd" with Pete Whale (drums) and Dave Cottam (bass). Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Camilleri has recorded as a solo artist and as a member of Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons and The Black Sorrows. Rockabilly
Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music. It dates back to the early 1950s in the United States, especially the Southern United States, South.
