''The Ring'' (often called ''The Ring'' magazine or ''Ring'' magazine) is an American boxing magazine that was first published in 1922 as a boxing and wrestling magazine. As the sporting legitimacy of professional wrestling came more into question, ''The Ring'' shifted to becoming exclusively a boxing-oriented publication. ''Ring'' began publishing annual ratings of boxers in 1924. With its November/December 2022 issue, the magazine stopped publication of its regular monthly print issues and will remain a digital publication, offering occasional special interest print issues. Julio César Vásquez (born July 13, 1965) is an Argentine retired professional boxer best known to have held a WBA junior middleweight title. Amateur record Vasquez had an amateur record of 33-2. Professional career Vasquez, known as "El Zurdo" which means lefty as he is a southpaw, turned pro in 1986 and captured the Vacant WBA Light Middleweight Title by KO'ing little-known Hitoshi Kamiyama in 1992. Benjamin Tackie (born 23 July 1973) is a Ghanaian former professional boxer and world title challenger. He was known for his excellent chin and ability to throw a high volume of punches. Derrick Lavon Jefferson (born March 10, 1968) is an American former professional boxer. He challenged once for the WBO title in 2001, and is perhaps best remembered for his brutal left hook-knockout of Maurice Harris in 1999. Early life Jefferson grew up in Detroit, Michigan, having attended Martin Luther King High School. In high school, Jefferson played basketball and football, and was a Division I basketball player during his college years. Gabriel Ruelas, (born on July 23, 1970, in Yerbabuena, Jalisco, Mexico), is a Mexican former professional boxer who held the WBC Super Featherweight world championship from 1994 to 1995. Professional career Ruelas turned pro in 1988 and in 1993 challenged WBC Super Featherweight Title holder Azumah Nelson, losing a close majority decision. In 1994 he was able to capture the title by outpointing Jesse James Leija. He defended the belt twice, including an 11th round TKO of Jimmy Garcia of Colombia, who later died from his injuries. Arturo Gatti (April 15, 1972 – July 11, 2009) was a Canadian professional boxer who competed from 1991 to 2007.
