The John Butler Trio
The John Butler Trio were an Australian Folk music, roots-Rock music, rock band led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler (musician), John Butler, an Australasian Performing Right Association, APRA and ARIA-award-winning musician. They formed in Fremantle in 1998 with Jason McGann on drums, Gavin Shoesmith on bass and John Butler (musician), John Butler on vocals. By 2009, the trio consisted of Butler with Byron Luiters on bass and Nicky Bomba on drums and percussion, the latter being replaced by Grant Gerathy in 2013. After both Luiters and Gerathy exited the trio in early 2019, bassist OJ Newcomb and drummer Terepai Richmond (also of The Whitlams) joined the band, accompanied by touring musician Elana Stone on keyboards, percussion and backing vocals. The band's second studio album, ''Three (The John Butler Trio album), Three'' (2001) reached the top 30 in the Australian album charts and achieved platinum sales. ''Sunrise Over Sea'' is the third studio album by Australian band the John Butler Trio. It was released in March 2004. Conception and production In late 2003, John Butler entered Woodstock Studios in Melbourne, which is owned by Joe Camilleri, the leader of Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons and the Black Sorrows. He had a new band consisting of percussionist Nicky Bomba and upright-bass player Shannon Birchall. John Charles Wiltshire-Butler (born 1 April 1975), professionally known as John Butler, is an American-Australian singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is best known for his time as the eponymous frontman of the John Butler Trio, a roots and jam band that formed in Perth Fremantle, Western Australia in 1998. The John Butler Trio recorded five studio albums, including three that reached number one on the Australian charts: ''Sunrise Over Sea'', ''Grand National'' and '' April Uprising''. His recordings and live performances have met with critical praise and have garnered awards from the Australian Performing Right Association and Australian Recording Industry Association. Melbourne Ska Orchestra are an ARIA Award-winning Australian ska band formed in 2003 in Melbourne. The group has up to 34 members, and is led by bandleader Nicky Bomba, formerly of the John Butler Trio. The band are signed to FOUR FOUR, an imprint of ABC Music. ''April Uprising'' is the fifth studio album by Australian roots band the John Butler Trio. The album was recorded from late 2009-early 2010 in Fremantle, Australia. The album's name comes from Butler's appearance on the television documentary series, ''Who Do You Think You Are'', where he journeyed to Bulgaria to find information about his ancestors. The 1876 April Uprising was an important event in Bulgarian history. The first single from the album was "One Way Road", which was accompanied by a music video, and was released on 4 December 2009. The second single was "Close To You", also with a video, on 11 March 2010. Grand National (album)
''Grand National'' is the fourth album by the John Butler Trio. Somewhere between 22 and 25 songs were considered for this album, some created during or before ''Sunrise Over Sea''. At the J Awards of 2007, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year. The album reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and the Billboard Heatseekers chart in the US, and as of 10 March 2008 it has reached triple Platinum Status (210,000+ copies sold). Grand National was the 7th highest selling album in Australia in 2007, remaining in the ARIA top 20 album charts for over nine months. The title of the album is derived from the antique dobro resophonic guitar that Butler inherited from his grandfather. ''Three'' is the second studio album of Australian jam band The John Butler Trio. All the music and lyrics were written and arranged by John Butler except Earthbound Child, which Ozzie Rea co-wrote. The album was recorded, engineered and mixed by Shaun O'Callaghan at Studio Couch, North Fremantle, Western Australia. Robin Mai, Nicky Bomba, and Joe Camilleri mastered it at Woodstock Studios. Elana Stone
Elana Stone is an Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader. Her debut solo album, ''In the Garden of Wild Things'', was released in 2005 on the Jazzgroove label. Its follow-up, ''Your Anniversary'', was released in 2009, while her third and fourth albums (''Kintsugi'' and ''Married To The Sound'') were released independently in 2015 and 2024, respectively. She was also a member of the ARIA award–winning folk quartet All Our Exes Live in Texas, in which she provided vocals and played the accordion. The Whitlams
The Whitlams are an Australian Indie rock band formed in late 1992. The original line-up was Tim Freedman on keyboards and lead vocals, Andy Lewis on double bass and Stevie Plunder on guitar and lead vocals. Other than mainstay Freedman, the line-up has changed numerous times.
