Friedrich Hayek
Friedrich August von Hayek (8 May 1899 – 23 March 1992) was an Austrian-born British academic and philosopher. He is known for his contributions to political economy, political philosophy and intellectual history. Hayek shared the 1974 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Gunnar Myrdal for work on money and economic fluctuations, and the interdependence of economic, social and institutional phenomena. His account of how prices communicate information is widely regarded as an important contribution to economics that led to him receiving the prize. He was a major contributor to the Austrian school of economics. During his teenage years, Hayek fought in World War I. He later said this experience, coupled with his desire to help avoid the mistakes that led to the war, drew him into economics. Karl Menger
Karl Menger (; January 13, 1902 – October 5, 1985) was an Austrian-born American mathematician, the son of the economist Carl Menger. In mathematics, Menger studied the theory of algebra over a field, algebras and the dimension theory of low-regularity (smoothness), regularity ("rough") curves and regions; as well as topology. In graph theory, he is credited with Menger's theorem. Outside of mathematics, Menger has substantial contributions to game theory and social sciences. Peter Kurrild-Klitgaard , (born 1966) is a Danish political scientist with a particular interest in public choice analysis and classical liberalism. Johannes Wilde
Johannes Wilde Order of the British Empire, CBE (2 July 1891 – 13 September 1970) was a Hungarian art historian and teacher of art history. He later became an Austrian, and then a British, citizen. He was a noted expert on the drawings of Michelangelo. Wilde was a pioneer of the use of X-rays as a tool for the study of both the creation and the state of conservation of paintings. From 1948 to 1958 he was deputy director of the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Life Johannes Wilde was born János Wilde on 2 July 1891 in Budapest, Hungary. Otto Benesch
Otto Benesch (29 June 1896 in Ebenfurth – 16 November 1964 in Vienna) was an Austrian art historian. He was taught by Max Dvořák and is considered a member of the Vienna School of Art History. He is well known for his catalogue of Rembrandt's drawings. In 1942 he was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship. Life and work Benesch was the son of art collector Heinrich Benesch, an important patron of the Austrian artist Egon Schiele. Being familiar with modern art from childhood, a personal acquaintance with Schiele left a lasting impression on him, which is also to be seen in several of his publications. From 1915 to 1921, Benesch studied art history, archaeology and philosophy at the University of Vienna mainly under Max Dvořák. Friedrich Engel-Janosi
Friedrich Engel-Jánosi (18 February 1893 – 7 March 1978) was an Austrian historian. Born Friedrich Engel von Jánosi, he wrote under the name Engel-Janosi. A leading expert on the relationship between the Holy See and the Habsburg monarchy, he also wrote on Italian history, on the history of historiography, and on more general topics. Biography Born to an ennobled Austrian Jewish family of industrialists, von Jánosi fought in the Austro-Hungarian Army during the First World War, winning the Silver Medal for Bravery. After completing doctorates in jurisprudence and in philosophy, he took up a position with the Lombard and Escompte Bank, working there until the bank collapsed in 1924. Eric Voegelin
Eric Voegelin (born Erich Hermann Wilhelm Vögelin, ; January 3, 1901 – January 19, 1985) was a German-American political philosopher. He was born in Cologne, and educated in political science at the University of Vienna, where he became an associate professor of political science in the law faculty. In 1938, he and his wife fled from the Nazi forces which had entered Vienna. They emigrated to the United States, where they became citizens in 1944. He spent most of his academic career at Louisiana State University, the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Hoover Institution of Stanford University.
