The Format
The Format was an American indie rock band, formed by vocalist Nate Ruess and multi-instrumentalist Sam Means (musician), Sam Means. Their style can be considered a mixture of indie, alternative, punk and folk music, with elements of 1960s and 1970s pop music. The Format chose their name to make fun of the music industry's inclination towards a cookie-cutter "format" for a hit. Formed in 2002, the band announced a hiatus on February 4, 2008. On February 4, 2020, they announced a return from their hiatus for a tour of special shows that were later cancelled due to the pandemic. History Before forming The Format in February 2002, Means and Ruess, who had been friends since grade school, formed the band Nevergonnascore and released the EP "The Byron Sessions" which had generated some record label interest but not a deal. EP (The Format Album)
''EP'' was the first Extended play, EP and first release by United States, American Rock and roll, rock band the Format. It was self-released on August 9, 2002. It was re-released on September 30, 2003 via Western Tread Recordings, which is owned by Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World. The success of "The First Single" on Phoenix, AZ, Phoenix rock radio station KZON, KEDJ caught the attention of many major record labels and ultimately led to The Format signing with Elektra Records. There exists a rare demo of "At the Wake," with its former title "Piano Song" this version of the songs includes a longer intro (with some extra drums) and different lyrics. Nettwerk Music Group is an independent record label founded in 1984. The Vancouver-based company was created by principals Terry McBride and Mark Jowett as a record label to distribute recordings by the band Moev, but the label expanded in Canada and internationally. Initially specializing in electronic music including alternative dance and industrial, the label expanded its roster to include pop, rock and numerous singer-songwriters in the late 1980s and 1990s. Steven Shane McDonald (born May 24, 1967) is an American rock musician, best known as the bass guitarist in the Los Angeles alternative rock/power pop band Redd Kross. He is a founding member of the hardcore punk band OFF! – serving as a member from 2009 to 2021 – as well as bassist for Melvins since 2015. Redd Kross is an American Rock music, rock band from Hawthorne, California, who had their roots in 1978 in a punk rock band called the Tourists, which was started by brothers Jeff and Steven Shane McDonald, Steve McDonald while Steve was still in middle school. The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood and drummer Bev Bevan.
