The Flowers Of Romance (British Band)
The Flowers of Romance was an early punk band, formed in mid-1976 by Jo Faull and Sarah Hall, girlfriends at the time of Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols. The band did not release any recordings and, like London SS and Masters of the Backside, are more famed for the number of band members that later became well known, including: Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols, Keith Levene (an early member of The Clash and later of Public Image Ltd), Palmolive and Viv Albertine of The Slits, and Kenny Morris (future member of Siouxsie and the Banshees). Morris replaced Palmolive on drums in the last months of the band's existence in late 1976. The band ended in January 1977 when Vicious joined Sex Pistols and Morris rehearsed with Siouxsie. Punk rock (also known as simply punk) is a rock music genre that emerged in the mid-1970s. Rooted in 1950s rock and roll and 1960s garage rock, punk bands rejected the corporate nature of mainstream 1970s rock music. A fanzine (blend word, blend of ''fan (person), fan'' and ''magazine'' or ''zine'') is a non-professional and non-official publication produced by enthusiasts of a particular cultural phenomenon (such as a literary or musical genre) for the pleasure of others who share their interest. ''The Flowers of Romance'' is the third studio album by English post-punk band Public Image Ltd, released on 10 April 1981 by Virgin Records. The group's first studio album recorded following the departure of bassist Jah Wobble, ''The Flowers of Romance'' found PiL delving further into an experimental sound. It was recorded mainly by frontman John Lydon and guitarist Keith Levene, both of whom made heavy use of percussion, tape editing, and various effects. Recording Recording began at The Manor Studio in Shipton-on-Cherwell, Oxfordshire, with two weeks booked in early October 1980. Only one album track was recorded towards the end of these sessions ("Hymie's Him"). The band also recorded joke versions of " Twist and Shout" and " Johnny Remember Me" which remain unreleased. ''Sex Pistols'' is a box set anthology of the career of the punk band The Sex Pistols with singer Johnny Rotten. It was released on 3 June 2002. The set comprises three themed CDs and an 80-page booklet. The first disc features '' Never Mind the Bollocks'', the band's only studio album, in its entirety, as well as four B-sides and the band's first demo session. The second disc has demos and studio outtakes, from July 1976 to January 1977 and from the ''Never Mind the Bollocks'' sessions. This, together with the first disc, includes most of the material recorded by the band while Johnny Rotten was the singer. The third disc, composed of previously unreleased live tracks, is almost completely taken from a 31 August 1976 gig at Islington Screen on the Green Cinema. John Joseph Lydon ( ; born 31 January 1956), also known by his former stage name Johnny Rotten, is a British-born singer, songwriter, author, and television personality. He was the lead vocalist of the punk rock band the Sex Pistols, which was active from 1975 to 1978, and again for various revivals during the 1990s and 2000s. He is also the lead vocalist of post-punk band Public Image Ltd (PiL), which he founded and fronted from 1978 until 1993, and again since 2009. ''Cut'' is the debut studio album by English punk band the Slits, released on 7 September 1979. It was recorded at Ridge Farm Studios in Rusper and produced by Dennis Bovell. Composition Musically, ''Cut'' works in an "innovative" fusion of punk and reggae. It also incorporates "restless ndoffbeat" art pop. Release and reception The album was originally released on 7 September 1979 on the Island Records label in the UK and on Antilles in the US. It reached number 30 on the UK album charts at the time.
