The Chameleons
The Chameleons are an English rock band formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester, in 1981. The band's classic line-up consisted of bassist and vocalist Mark Burgess (now known as Vox), guitarists Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding, and drummer John Lever. The band released their debut studio album, '' Script of the Bridge'', in 1983. They followed it with '' What Does Anything Mean? Basically'' and '' Strange Times'' in 1985 and 1986, respectively, before abruptly breaking up in 1987 due to internal tensions and the sudden death of the band's manager. After the break-up, Burgess and Lever formed the Sun and the Moon, while Fielding and Smithies formed the Reegs. Burgess also had a short solo career with backing band the Sons of God. The Chameleons reformed in 2000, releasing their fourth studio album '' Why Call It Anything'' (2001) as well as the acoustic albums '' Strip'' (2000) and '' This Never Ending Now'' (2002). Primavera Sound 2024
The Primavera Sound 2024 music festival took place from 30 May to 1 June at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona, Spain. The line-up was headlined by Pulp (band), Pulp, Vampire Weekend and Justice (band), Justice on Thursday, Lana Del Rey, The National (band), The National and Disclosure (band), Disclosure on Friday and SZA, PJ Harvey, Mitski and Charli XCX on Saturday. It was the 22nd edition of the festival. On Wednesday, 29 May, Phoenix (French band), Phoenix headlined the free "Jornada Inaugural" opening day concert on the Amazon Music stage at the Parc del Fòrum. Parc del Fòrum also hosted a "Brunch on the Beach" event on Sunday, 2 June, featuring DJ sets from performers including ANOTR and The Blessed Madonna. Recording Contract
A recording contract (commonly called a record contract or record deal) is a legal agreement between a record label and a recording act (artist or group), where the act makes an audio recording (or series of recordings) for the label to sell and promote. Strange Fruit Records was an independent record label in the United Kingdom. The label, established by Clive Selwood and John Peel in 1986, was the primary distributor of BBC recordings, including Peel Sessions.Larkin, Colin (ed.) City Fun
''City Fun'' was a magazine/fanzine documenting the music scene in Manchester, England, between 1977 and 1984 and sold up to 2000 copies per issue via gigs, music stores, and selected news agents across Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Leeds. The magazine was started by Andy Waide (Zero), Neil Hargreaves, Martin Heywood (X) and 'JC'. On the day it was decided to write & publish the first issue Andy Waide adopted the name Andy Zero and Martin Heywood became Martin X. The first edition was dedicated to The Distractions, and ''City Fun'' went on to document and inform the music scene in Manchester in the late 1970s and early 1980s. John Peel
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), better known as John Peel, was an English radio presenter and journalist. He was the longest-serving of the original disc jockeys on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Peel was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio. He is widely acknowledged for promoting artists of many genres, including pop, dub reggae, punk rock and post-punk, electronic music and dance music, indie rock, extreme metal and British hip hop. The Edge
David Howell Evans (born 8 August 1961), better known as the Edge or simply Edge,McCormick (2006), pp. 21, 23–24 is a British-Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead guitarist, keyboardist, and backing vocalist of the rock band U2. ''Boy'' is the debut studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was produced by Steve Lillywhite and was released on 20 October 1980 by Island Records. ''Boy'' contains songs from the band's 40-song repertoire at the time, including two tracks that were re-recorded from their original versions on the group's debut release, the EP '' Three''. Magazine (band)
Magazine were a British Rock music, rock band formed in 1977 in Manchester in England by singer Howard Devoto and guitarist John McGeoch. After leaving the Punk rock, punk group Buzzcocks in early 1977, Devoto decided to create a more progressive and less "traditional" rock band. The original lineup of Magazine was composed of Devoto, McGeoch, Barry Adamson on bass, Bob Dickinson on keyboards and Martin Jackson on drums. Their debut album, ''Real Life (Magazine album), Real Life'' (1978), was critically acclaimed and was one of the first post-punk albums. After releasing two other albums, ''Secondhand Daylight'' and ''The Correct Use of Soap'', McGeoch left the band in 1980 to join Siouxsie and the Banshees. Dukinfield
Dukinfield is a town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, on the south bank of the River Tame, Greater Manchester, River Tame opposite Ashton-under-Lyne, east of Manchester.
