The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums Of All Time
The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums of All Time is a list of the best album releases issued by Slovak recording artists. As the first such list presented in Slovakia, it was published by ''Nový čas'' daily on 22 September 2007. The list is entirely composed of Slovak, or else of formerly Czechoslovak artists, featuring all albums published in the country of origin from the 1960s onwards. Some of nominated full-length records could have been performed also in a different language (occasionally in English but partially). Ranking itself was based on votes received from twenty-five selected native-born musicians, critics and/or industry figures. Each of them voted ten most significant Slovak LPs from the past four decades in the country. While the winning album became '' Zvoňte, zvonky'' (1969) by Prúdy band, the most-represented musical act on the list is female vocalist Marika Gombitová, having six out of her nine studio albums in total present. Ján Lehotský
Ján, also credited as Janko Lehotský (born 16 April 1947) is a Slovak composer and former leader of the Modus band. Lehotský began his performing career when he was four years old, when he performed in a marionette theater. He was a freelance composer during the Velvet Revolution. In 1974 he began managing the band Modus, in which performed also Marika Gombitová and Miroslav Žbirka. He created about 20 records in his career. Modus (band)
Modus was a popular Slovak band, originally established in 1967 by Stanislav Hrda, Ján Baláž, Peter Krutek, Juraj Czinege, Tomáš Bery Psota, Ľubomír Stankovský, Gabriel Wertlen and Miroslav Žbirka in the former Czechoslovakia. The formation (identified nowadays as ''Modus 0'') initially played cover versions of the 60's hits. A major change followed after the arrival of Ján Lehotský who joined the ensemble in 1972, and became their leader. Double Album
A double album (or double record) is an audio album that spans two units of the primary medium in which it is sold, typically either records or compact disc. A double album is usually, though not always, released as such because the recording is longer than the capacity of the medium. Lobby (band)
Lobby was a Slovak Eurodance band active between 1995 and 2001. They released four studio albums and sang in Slovak, English, and Spanish. The band was made up of Martina Ostatníková, Andrej Dziak, Milan Michalík, Karol Bližnák and, until 1997, Miroslav Babják. Ladislav Lučenič
Laco Lučenič (born 23 November 1952) is a Slovaks, Slovak musician and music producer. He is known as a former member of such Slovak bands as Fermáta, Prúdy, Modus (band), Modus, and Miroslav Žbirka, Limit. He became popular for his role as a judge on the Slovak Pop Idol (''Slovensko hľadá SuperStar''). Growing up in the 1960s, he became fascinated by the "electrifying" music of the Beatles, Kinks, Rolling Stones, and others. In his project called "Satisfactory", he plays music from the 1960s. In November 2006, the show was released on DVD ''Satisfactory Live In Concert'' on the Lučenič's own label ''doubleL''. Lučenič is also the author of a 1960s encyclopaedia. Marián Varga
Marián Varga (29 January 1947 – 9 August 2017) was a Slovak musician, composer and Organ (music), organist. In the context of Czech-Slovak musical culture of the second half of the 20th century, Varga was a significant figure in the field of autonomous, modern classical music, rock music, as well as improvised or experimental music. In 1967, he became a member of the band Prúdy, with whom he recorded and co-wrote the legendary album ''Zvoňte, zvonky''. Influenced by Brian Auger and Keith Emerson, Marián Varga founded the band Collegium musicum in 1969, whose albums ''Konvergencie'', ''Zelená pošta'', ''Collegium Musicum Live'' and ''Divergencie'' represent the main pillars of Czech-Slovak rock music. He died on 9 August 2017 after several health problems, including cancer and lung disease. Pavol Hammel
Pavol Hammel (born 7 December 1948, in Bratislava) is a Slovak musician, singer and producer. Pavol Hammel was born to a family of musicians. His father played violin in the Slovak National Theatre, and influenced Pavol to become a promising violin player too. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava in 1976. He gained fame initially in the group Prúdy, but has since established a successful solo career. He is married and has two daughters.
