Tejano music (), also known as Tex-Mex music, is a popular music style fusing Mexican influences. Its evolution began in northern Mexico (a variation of regional Mexican music known as ). It reached a larger audience in the late 20th century with the popularity of Mazz, Selena, and other performers like La Mafia, Ram Herrera, La Sombra, Elida Reyna, Elsa García, Laura Canales, Intocable, Jay Perez, Emilio Navaira, Esteban "Steve" Jordan, Shelly Lares, David Lee Garza, Jennifer Peña and La Fiebre. Texas Country Music
Texas country music (more popularly known just as Texas country or Texas music) is a subgenre of country music from Texas. Texas country is a style of Western music and is often associated with other distinct neighboring styles, including Red Dirt from Oklahoma, the New Mexico music of New Mexico, and Tejano in Texas, all of which have influenced one another over the years, and are popular throughout Texas, the Midwest, the Southwest, and other parts of the Western United States. Texas Country is known for fusing neotraditional country with the outspoken, care-free views of outlaw country. Emilio Navaira
Emilio H. Navaira III (August 23, 1962 – May 16, 2016) was an American singer-songwriter of Tejano music, Tejano and country music. He is the winner of one Grammy Award and one Latin Grammy Award. Known to most by the Mononymous person, mononym Emilio, he charted more than ten singles on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Hot Latin Tracks charts, in addition to six singles on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Emilio was also one of the few Tejano artists to have significant success in both the United States and Mexico, and was called the "Garth Brooks of Tejano". His biggest country hit was the No. 27 "It's Not the End of the World" in late 1995, and his highest-charting single on any chart is "Por Siempre Unidos," which peaked at No. 7 on Latin Pop Airplay in 1996. Jay Perez
Jay Perez (born September 21, 1963) is an American Tejano musician, who is known for mixing rhythm and blues with traditional Tejano Music and Regional Mexican. Career Perez was born in San Antonio on September 21, 1963. He attended John Jay High School and dropped out during his junior year to work and provide for his brother and sister. Initially a drummer for Mysterio Band with Albert Castaneda, he then became a lead vocalist for Latin Breed and David Lee Garza y los Musicales. Perez began a solo career in the early 1990s, and has released several solo albums. Intocable
Intocable ("Untouchable" in English) is an American band from Zapata, Texas that plays regional Mexican music; specializing in norteño and tejano music. Laura Canales
Laura Canales (August 19, 1954 – April 16, 2005) was an American Tejano musician and an original inductee in the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame. Canales was born in Kingsville, Texas. Early years Laura Canales was raised in Kingsville, Texas. She attended Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville. After graduation, her father, Perfecto, encouraged her to continue her pursuit of a ''tejano'' music career. She made her recording debut in 1973 with Los Unicos while simultaneously singing with renowned Texas ''conjunto'' and ''norteño'' group Conjunto Bernal. Elsa Garcia is a Mexican-American Tejano singer and producer from Houston, Texas. She has had four albums certified gold, and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1991 for her album, ''Simplemente''. La Sombra (band)
La Sombra, also known as La Sombra de Tony Guerrero and previously known as La Sombra de Chicago, is a Tejano band founded by Antonio "Tony" Guerrero Jr. Originally from the Chicago suburb of Aurora, Illinois, the group gained national acclaim and success after moving to Corpus Christi, Texas and signing with Freddie Records. La Sombra released over twenty full-length studio albums featuring songs in both Spanish and English.
