Prouhet–Tarry–Escott Problem
In mathematics, the Prouhet–Tarry–Escott problem asks for two disjoint multisets ''A'' and ''B'' of ''n'' integers each, whose first ''k'' power sum symmetric polynomials are all equal. That is, the two multisets should satisfy the equations :\sum_ a^i = \sum_ b^i for each integer ''i'' from 1 to a given ''k''. It has been shown that ''n'' must be strictly greater than ''k''. Solutions with k = n - 1 are called ''ideal solutions''. Ideal solutions are known for 3 \le n \le 10 and for n = 12. No ideal solution is known for n=11 or for n \ge 13. This problem was named after Eugène Prouhet, who studied it in the early 1850s, and Gaston Tarry and Edward B. Escott, who studied it in the early 1910s. The problem originates from letters of Christian Goldbach and Leonhard Euler (1750/1751). Examples Ideal solutions An ideal solution for ''n'' = 6 is given by the two sets and , because: : 01 + 51 + 61 + 161 + 171 + 221 = 11 + 21 + 101 + 121 + 201 + 211 : 02 + 5 ... 6001–7000
6 (six) is the natural number following 5 and preceding 7. It is a composite number and the smallest perfect number. In mathematics A six-sided polygon is a hexagon, one of the three regular polygons capable of tiling the plane. A hexagon also has 6 edges as well as 6 internal and external angles. 6 is the second smallest composite number. It is also the first number that is the sum of its proper divisors, making it the smallest perfect number. It is also the only perfect number that doesn't have a digital root of 1. 6 is the first unitary perfect number, since it is the sum of its positive proper unitary divisors, without including itself. Only five such numbers are known to exist. 6 is the largest of the four all-Harshad numbers. 6 is the 2nd superior highly composite number, the 2nd colossally abundant number, the 3rd triangular number, the 4th highly composite number, a pronic number, a congruent number, a harmonic divisor number, and a semiprime. 6 is also th ... Tarry Flynn
''Tarry Flynn'' is a novel by Irish poet and novelist Patrick Kavanagh, set in 1930s rural Ireland. The book is based on Kavanagh's experience as a young farmer in Monaghan, but the novel is set in Cavan. The story is based on the life of a young farmer poet and his quest for big fields, young women and the meaning of life. Publication history Patrick Kavanagh began writing ''Tarry Flynn'' in 1940 under the title ''Stony Grey Soil''. It was, however, rejected. After his collection of poetry ''A Soul for Sale'', containing the poem ''The Great Hunger'', was published to great acclaim in February 1947, he set about revising the novel and spent the summer of 1947 working on it. It was published by The Pilot Press in November 1948. The novel was banned by the Irish Censorship Board for being ''"indecent and obscene"''. The ruling was overturned following a challenge by the publisher, although the novel did not return to publication until the 1960s. The novel was produced as a play ...
