Taekwondo at the 2004 Summer Olympics were held in the Sports Pavilion at the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex in Athens, Greece where 124 competitors competed in eight events, four each for men and women. Qualification Medal summary The host nation Greece failed to add to the gold won by Michalis Mouroutsos at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, though Alexandros Nikolaidis and Elisavet Mystakidou both won silver. Chinese Taipei (i.e. Taiwan) won its first two gold medals ever at these events. Steven López of the United States and Chen Zhong of China each repeated as Olympic champions. Hadi Saei, Huang Chih-hsiung and Pascal Gentil also won medal for the second time. Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex
The Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Sports Complex is a complex in the coastal zone of Piraeus, Greece. It consists of two indoor arenas and a beach volleyball stadium, and it hosted Handball, Taekwondo, and volleyball events at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The complex is located in Faliro, Attica. Huang Chih-hsiung
Huang Chih-hsiung (; born October 16, 1976) is a Taiwanese athlete. Representing Taiwan (as Chinese Taipei) in the 2004 Summer Olympics, he won the silver medal at the Men's 68 kg Taekwondo event. At the 2000 Summer Olympics he won a bronze medal at the Men's 58 kg Taekwondo event. Early life and education Huang was born on 16 October 1976 in Taipei County (now New Taipei City), Taiwan. He was educated at Taipei County Wenlin Elementary School and Taipei County Shulin Junior High School before graduating from National Overseas Chinese Experimental Senior High School. Nia Abdallah
Nia Nicole Abdallah (born January 24, 1984) is the 2004 Olympic silver medalist and the first U.S. woman to officially medal in taekwondo at the Olympic Games. In 2007, Abdallah was inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame. Early life Abdallah was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and was introduced to taekwondo by her stepfather when she was nine years old. After graduating from George Washington Carver High School in Houston, she went to live in Colorado Springs. After training at the Olympic Training Center, she went on to compete, first in open class international competition, then on the world and Olympic level. Yaowapa Boorapolchai
Yaowapa Boorapolchai (; ; born September 6, 1984, at Bangkok) is a Thai taekwondo athlete who was the bronze medalist in the women's under 49 kg event at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She graduated Bachelor of Arts historical major from Thammasat University. She started competing in 2002. In the first round of the Women's Under 49 kg event she defeated Brigitte Yague of Spain, and in the quarterfinal was defeated by Yanelis Yuliet Labrada Diaz of Cuba. Yanelis Labrada
Yanelis Yuliet Labrada Diaz (born October 8, 1981) is a taekwondo silver medalist from Cuba in the Women's Under 49 kg event at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Diaz defeated Yaowapa Boorapolchai of Thailand in the quarter-finals and Euda Carias of Guatemala in the semifinals but was defeated in the finals by Chen Shih-hsin of Taiwan to win the silver medal. Bahri Tanrıkulu (born March 16, 1980, in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the Men's 80 kg division at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece and won the silver medal. He studied at Akdeniz University. He is Turkey's first World and European Taekwondo champion.
