Swimming At The 2023 World Aquatics Championships
The swimming events at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships were held from 23 to 30 July 2023 at the Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall A in Fukuoka, Japan. Léon Marchand of France won the Male Swimmer of the Championships award and Kaylee McKeown of Australia won the Female Swimmer of Championships award based on individual point score. The United States won the Team of the Championships award based on team point score. World Records were broken in six individual and three relay events. China's Qin Haiyang and Australia's Kaylee McKeown became the first male and female athletes at a World Aquatics Championships to win the 50m, 100m & 200m events in a single stroke, at a single World Aquatics Championships. Kyle Chalmers, (born 25 June 1998) is an Australian competitive swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 100 metre freestyle, 4×100 metre medley relay, and long course 4×100 metre mixed freestyle relay. He is the Oceanian and Australian record holder in the short course 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre freestyle. At the 2014 Oceania Swimming Championships, Chalmers won the Oceania title in the 50 metre butterfly and 100 metre freestyle. He was the 2016 Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in the 100 metre freestyle, winning the gold medal in world junior record time. In 2018, he was Commonwealth Games champion in the 200 metre freestyle. Joseph Hunter Armstrong (born January 24, 2001) is an American competitive swimmer. He is the world record holder in the long course 50 meter backstroke. At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, he won a silver medal in the 50 meter backstroke, a bronze medal in the 100 meter backstroke, gold medals in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay and 4×100 meter mixed medley relay, and a silver medal in the 4×100 meter medley relay. Bobby Finke
Robert Christian Finke ( ; born November 6, 1999), better known as Bobby Finke, is an American competitive swimmer. He won two gold medals for the United States in the 2020 Summer Olympics: the men's 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyle swims. Finke successfully defended his title in 1500 m freestyle at the 2024 Summer Olympics, setting the world record and added a silver medal in the 800 m freestyle. He swam for the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida from 2018 to 2022 under Coach Anthony Nesty. He currently swims as part of the pro group at UF. Before swimming in college, Bobby swam for Coach Fred Lewis on the Saint Petersburg Aquatics club team (also known as SPA), located in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui (; born 4 December 2002) is a Tunisian swimmer. He is the African record holder in the long course 400-metre and 1500-metre freestyle, and the short course 800-metre and 1500-metre freestyle events. He competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics, where he won a gold medal in the men's 400-metre freestyle. He ranked No. 16 in the world and was the slowest qualifier for the final race but won Olympic gold with a time of 3:43.36. Hafnaoui was the only Tunisian to win Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020. He finished 8th in the final of the 400 m freestyle at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
