Swimming At The 2004 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 2004 Summer Paralympics, in the Olympic Aquatic Centre was competed in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly (classes Sn), the breaststroke (classes SBn) and individual medley (classes SMn). *Swimmers with a physical disability were assessed on muscle strength and the scope and coordination of movement, and their impact on different swimming styles. Olympic Aquatic Centre (Athens)
The Athens Olympic Aquatic Centre is a complex at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex in Marousi, Athens, Greece, consisting of two outdoor pools and one indoor pool, that was built for the 1991 Mediterranean Games. It was refurbished and expanded for the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Paralympics. The larger of the two outdoor pools, which seats 11,500 spectators, hosted swimming and water polo events. The smaller pool, which hosted synchronized swimming, had the capacity for 5.300 people. The indoor pool also hosted the water polo, diving and the swimming during the Paralympics had capacity for another 6.300 persons. Curtis Lovejoy
Curtis Lovejoy (May 13, 1957 – March 11, 2021) was an American Paralympic swimmer. In 2000, he won the gold medal in the men's 50 metre freestyle S2 and the men's 100 metre freestyle S2 events at the Summer Paralympics held in Sydney, Australia. He also won two medals in swimming at the 2004 Summer Paralympics held in Athens, Greece. He also competed in wheelchair fencing. Early life In 1986, Lovejoy was paralyzed from the neck down after a car accident. He took up swimming as therapy after his accident. Career In 2009, Lovejoy won the gold medal in the men's 50 metre freestyle S3 event at the 2009 IPC Swimming World Championships 25 m held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a new world record of 55.77s. He also won the bronze medal in the men's 4×50 m freestyle relay 20 pts event. Lovejoy was inducted into the Georgia Aquatics Hall of Fame in 2013. Anthony Stephens (born 9 July 1986) is a British swimmer who has participated in three Paralympic Games, winning five medals. He competes in S5 classification events. is a Paralympic swimmer from Japan. He competed mainly in S4 freestyle events. Yuji competed as part of the Japanese Paralympic swimming team at the 2004 Summer Paralympics where he was part of the 4x50m freestyle squad that finished fourth and also the squad that finished second in the 4x50m medley behind the games record set by Brazil.
