Pantyhose, sometimes also called sheer (textile), sheer tights, are close-fitting legwear covering the wearer's body from the waist to the toes. Hosiery, (, ) also referred to as legwear, describes garments worn directly on the foot, feet and human leg, legs. The term originated as the collective term for products of which a maker or seller is termed a hosier; and those products are also known generically as hose. The term is also used for all types of knitted fabric, and its thickness and weight is defined by Units of textile measurement#Denier, denier or opacity. ''Daddy Long Legs'' (1955) is a musical comedy film set in France, New York City, and the fictional college town of Walston, Massachusetts. Fully Fashioned Stockings
Fully fashioned stockings (FFS), are stockings with characteristic reinforcements on the heel and top, a so-called keyhole at the back of the top, and a stitched back seam in between. They are made to be worn with a garter belt and are today considered a vintage design of hosiery after largely having been replaced by seamless stockings and pantyhose from the 1960s onwards. Fully fashioned stockings are usually made from nylon and thus have very little stretch compared with modern stockings and pantyhose. The nylon riots were a series of disturbances at American stores created by a nylon stocking shortage. Background Nylon was patented by DuPont in 1935, and the company began manufacturing nylon stockings in 1939. The product quickly became popular in the United States, with up to 4 million pairs of stockings bought in one day. During World War II (1939–1945), nylon was used extensively for parachutes and other war materials, such as airplane cords and ropes. As a result, the supply of nylon consumer goods was curtailed. The riots occurred between August 1945 and March 1946, when the War Production Board announced that the creation of DuPont's nylon would shift its manufacturing from wartime material to nylon stockings, at the same time launching a promotional campaign. In one of the worst disturbances, in Pittsburgh, 40,000 women queued up for 13,000 pairs of stockings, leading to fights breaking out. Balbriggan
Balbriggan (; , ) is a suburban coastal town in Fingal, in the northern part of County Dublin, Ireland. It is approximately 34 km north of the city of Dublin, for which it is a commuter town.
