A sinfonietta is a musical group that is larger than a chamber ensemble but smaller than a full-size or symphony orchestra. There are many orchestras called ''sinfonietta''. Chamber Music
Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of Musical instrument, instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a Great chamber, palace chamber or a large room. Most broadly, it includes any art music that is performed by a small number of performers, with one performer to a part (in contrast to orchestral music, in which each string part is played by a number of performers). However, by convention, it usually does not include solo instrument performances. Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as "the music of friends". For more than 100 years, chamber music was played primarily by amateur musicians in their homes, and even today, when chamber music performance has migrated from the home to the concert hall, many musicians, amateur and professional, still play chamber music for their own pleasure. Kymi Sinfonietta
The Kymi Sinfonietta is a sinfonietta (orchestra), sinfonietta-sized orchestra based in two Finland, Finnish cities, Kotka and Kouvola. The Kymi Sinfonietta was formed in 1999 after merging the Kotka and Kouvola City Orchestras and it is currently an ensemble of 31 regular players. Kymi Sinfonietta’s public performances range from about 100 to nearly 200 performances per year. Concerts by the Kymi Sinfonietta are held at Kotka Concert Hall on Wednesdays and Kouvola Town Hall, Kouvola City Hall or Kuusankoski Hall on Thursdays. The Kymi Sinfonietta has a very broad repertoire ranging from small chamber works to large symphonies and also lighter programs. Sinfonietta Rīga
Sinfonietta Rīga is a state chamber orchestra in Latvia founded in 2006. Consisting of young students, the orchestra is influenced by Western and Eastern culture. Arvo Pärt's works were presented by the ensemble at the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg. The chamber ensemble has recorded with WERGO and Ondine. Since 2006, Normunds Šnē has been artistic director, Paavo Järvi has been guest conductor. Beside Western repertoire, Sinfonietta Rīga often plays Latvian and Baltic music and commissions works by contemporary Latvian composers. Important are collaborations with Jörg Widmann, Christian Lindberg and Martin Grubinger. Another orchestra from Riga is the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Tapiola Sinfonietta
The Tapiola Sinfonietta (founded in 1987) is a city orchestra in Espoo, Finland. The orchestra consists of 41 members, and its principal concert venue is Tapiola Hall (with 773 seats) at the Espoo Cultural Centre. In the beginning, Jorma Panula, Osmo Vänskä, Juhani Lamminmäki, and Jean-Jacques Kantorow (the honorary conductor) served as principal conductors. Nowadays, the orchestra does not have a principal conductor. Instead, they have an artistic board consisting of the general manager and two musicians elected by the orchestra. Tapiola Sinfonietta records and tours regularly and currently has more than 60 titles. Siam Sinfonietta
Siam Sinfonietta is a youth orchestra founded in 2010 by Thai-American composer Somtow Sucharitkul, Thai conductor Trisdee na Patalung, and the Bangkok Opera Foundation. It was created in order to provide intensive training for young Thai musicians intending to have a serious career in classical music. The orchestra operates out of the offices of the Bangkok Opera Foundation. The orchestra came into existence at the first "Bach to the Future: Science through Music" camp and immediately embarked on a series of concerts in Bangkok, particularly concerts for young audiences and concerts that served to introduce classical music to new audiences. It has toured extensively in Thailand and in its second year plans more international touring as well. The Praga Sinfonietta Orchestra (short Czech language, Czech name: ''Praga Sinfonietta'') is a Czech Republic, Czech classical orchestra based in Prague. It was found in the summer of 1990 by conductor Miriam Němcová. The ensemble was able to gain musicians from Prague's most influential orchestras and has been successful in recording and touring throughout European countries like Italy, Germany and Austria. The orchestra concentrates on playing Czech composers like Jan Dismas Zelenka, Johann Stamitz, František Václav Míča, Josef Mysliveček, Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák and Bohuslav Martinů including various genres starting from the Baroque music, baroque era up to contemporary works of the 20th century. Oslo Sinfonietta
Oslo Sinfonietta is a Norwegian contemporary classical orchestra. It was founded by composer Asbjørn Schaatun in 1986. The current artistic director is Christian Eggen. Oslo Sinfonietta grew out of contemporary music circles at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Since 1993 it has been organised as a pool of musicians drawn from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the local freelance scene. The Luxembourg Sinfonietta is an orchestral ensemble for contemporary music in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The London Sinfonietta is an English contemporary chamber music, chamber orchestra founded in 1968 and based in London. The ensemble has headquarters at Kings Place and is Resident Orchestra at the Southbank Centre.
