Sheriff Of Clark County
The Sheriff of Clark County, officially The Sheriff of the County of Clark, is the chief law enforcement officer of Clark County, Nevada. The Sheriff heads the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, is elected by the citizens of Clark County, and is an independent agency with joint policing of the City of Las Vegas and of unincorporated Clark County. The sheriff is the only elected head law enforcement officer within the city and county, and, as such, is not under the direct control of the city, county, state, or federal government. The current sheriff is Kevin McMahill, who became sheriff after Republican Joe Lombardo resigned to become Governor of Nevada. Joe Lombardo
Joseph Michael Lombardo ( ; born November 8, 1962) is an American politician and former law enforcement officer serving as the 31st governor of Nevada since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he was the 17th sheriff of Clark County from 2015 to 2023, capping a 34-year career in law enforcement. Born in Japan, Lombardo moved to Las Vegas in 1976 and was educated at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He served in the United States Army before becoming an officer in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1988. He was elected sheriff in 2014 and reelected in 2018. As sheriff, he oversaw the investigation into the 2017 Las Vegas shooting. The ''Las Vegas Review-Journal'' is a daily subscription newspaper published in Las Vegas, Nevada, since 1909. It is the largest circulating daily newspaper in Nevada and one of two daily newspapers in the Las Vegas area. Douglas Charles Gillespie (born August 13, 1958) is an American retired law enforcement officer. He served as the 16th Sheriff of Clark County, Nevada from 2007 to 2015. Jerry Paul Keller (born June 20, 1937) is an American pop singer and songwriter, best known for his 1959 hit song "Here Comes Summer". Career Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Keller moved with his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma, when he was six, and Keller attended Tulsa's Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1955. He was known as a vocal soloist in various school productions, and was often invited to do guest vocals with top bands touring the area. He formed the group and was a member of the Tulsa Boy Singers. Keller attended the University of Tulsa and moved to New York in 1956. Pat Boone, a friend from church, recommended Marty Mills as Keller's manager. Keller's biggest self-penned hit was 1959's "Here Comes Summer". In 1959 it climbed to No. 14 in the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Ralph Lamb
Ralph James Lamb (April 10, 1927 – July 3, 2015) was an American law enforcement officer and the 11th Sheriff of Clark County from 1961 to 1979. He was a member of the Republican Party. Lamb was born in Alamo, Nevada, one of 11 children born to his mother and father. His father, William Grainger Lamb died in a rodeo accident by trying to stop a fractious horse from heading through the crowds on July 3, 1939, in Fallon, Nevada, at the age of 46, when Lamb was 12 years old. His father was buried at Alamo Cemetery in Alamo, Nevada. Lamb and his siblings took odd jobs to help make ends meet during the Great Depression. Glen Jones
Glen C. Jones (July 15, 1910 – September 9, 1983) was an American law enforcement officer from Nevada. He served as sheriff of Clark County from 1942 to 1955. Early life Glen C. Jones was born on July 15, 1910, in Overton, Nevada, to Albert L. Jones. His father was county commissioner. Career Jones moved to Las Vegas in 1928. He joined the Clark County fire and police departments when they were formed in 1935. In 1938, he joined the sheriff's department and was appointed undersheriff in 1939. He held that role until his election as sheriff of Clark County in 1942. He served as sheriff until 1955 when he was defeated by Butch Leypoldt.
