Sexploitation
A sexploitation film (or sex-exploitation film) is a class of independently produced, Low-budget film, low-budget feature film that is generally associated with the 1960s and early 1970s, and that serves largely as a vehicle for the exhibition of non-explicit sexual situations and Nudity in film, gratuitous nudity. The genre is a subgenre of exploitation films. The term "sexploitation" has been used since the 1940s. In the United States, exploitation films were generally exhibited in urban grindhouse, grindhouse theatres, which were the precursors to the Adult theater, adult movie theaters of the 1970s and 1980s that featured hardcore pornography content. Doris Wishman
Doris Wishman (June 1, 1912 August 10, 2002) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. She is credited with having directed and produced at least 30 feature films during a career spanning over four decades, most notably in the sexploitation film genre. A native of New York City, Wishman began her film career as a hobby after the death of her husband in 1958. She made her feature debut with '' Hideout in the Sun'' (1960), and went on to direct numerous nudist and sexploitation films, such as ''Gentlemen Prefer Nature Girls'' (1963), '' Behind the Nudist Curtain'' (1963), and '' Bad Girls Go to Hell'' (1965). In the 1970s, she made her first foray into directing pornographic films. ''Lorna'' is a 1964 independent film starring Lorna Maitland, produced and directed by Russ Meyer. It was written in four days by James Griffith, who played the preacher in the film. ''Lorna'' marks the end of Meyer's "nudies" and his first foray into serious film making. It was his first film in the sexploitation style with a dramatic storyline. Synopsis Harmon Johnson is the photographer for a small pornography ring that uses deception and blackmail to coerce its models into performing. A grindhouse or action house is an American term for a theatre that mainly shows low-budget horror, splatter, and exploitation films for adults. According to historian David Church, this theater type was named after the "grind policy", a film-programming strategy dating back to the early 1920s that continuously showed films at cut-rate ticket prices that typically rose over the course of each day. Herschell Gordon Lewis (June 15, 1926 – September 26, 2016) was an American filmmaker, best known for creating the " splatter" subgenre of horror films. He is often called the "Godfather of Gore" (a title also given to Lucio Fulci), though his film career included works in a range of exploitation film genres including juvenile delinquent films, nudie-cuties, two children's films and at least one rural comedy. On Lewis' career, AllMovie wrote, "With his better-known gore films, Herschell Gordon Lewis was a pioneer, going further than anyone else dared, probing the depths of disgust and discomfort onscreen with more bad taste and imagination than anyone of his era."
