Halimione Portulacoides
''Halimione portulacoides'', commonly known as sea purslane, is a shrub found in Eurasia. Description The perennial plant grows to in height. The leaves are thick and oval-shaped, with a powdery surface. In northern temperate climates it flowers from July to September. The flowers are small, borne in short clusters, monoecious, and pollinated by wind. Taxonomy Botanical synonyms include ''Atriplex portulacoides'' L. and ''Obione portulacoides'' (L.) Moq. Recent phylogenetic research revealed that ''Halimione'' is a distinct genus and cannot be included in ''Atriplex''. Distribution and habitat ''Halimione portulacoides'' occurs at the sea shores of western and southern Europe, and from the Mediterranean Sea to western Asia. ''Honckenya peploides'', the sea sandwort (UK) or seaside sandplant (Canada), is the only species in the genus ''Honckenya'' of the plant family Caryophyllaceae. Other common names include sea chickweed, sea pimpernal, sea-beach sandwort, and sea purslane. The scientific name is often spelled "''Honkenya''", and is named after the German botanist Gerhard August Honckeny (or Honkeny). This plant has a circumboreal distribution. The plant is a succulent perennial growing at the edge of the sea. It has small greenish white pentamerous flowers with 10 stamens in the male flowers borne in the leaf axils.
