Sandworm (Dune)
A sandworm is a fictional Extraterrestrial life, extraterrestrial creature that appears in the Dune (franchise), ''Dune'' novels written by Frank Herbert, first introduced in ''Dune (novel), Dune'' (1965). Sandworms are colossal, worm-like creatures that live on the desert planet Arrakis. Their larvae produce a drug called Melange (Dune), melange (known colloquially as "the spice"), the most essential and valuable commodity in the universe because it makes safe and accurate interstellar travel possible. Melange deposits are found in the sand seas of Arrakis, where the sandworms live and hunt, and harvesting the spice from the sand is a dangerous activity because sandworms are aggressive and territorial. Jason ( ; ) was an ancient Greek mythological hero and leader of the Argonauts, whose quest for the Golden Fleece is featured in Greek literature. John Schoenherr
John Carl Schoenherr (July 5, 1935 – April 8, 2010) was an American illustrator. He won the 1988 Caldecott Medal for U.S. children's book illustration, recognizing '' Owl Moon'' by Jane Yolen, which recounts the story of the first time a father takes his youngest child on a traditional outing to spot an owl. He was posthumously inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2015. Personal life Schoenherr was born July 5, 1935, in New York City (Manhattan) and raised in Queens, "in a German-speaking household in a polyglot community", where he used drawings to communicate with speakers of other languages. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School, and studied art at the Art Students League of New York with Will Barnet and at Pratt Institute. Leeches are segmented parasitism, parasitic or Predation, predatory worms that comprise the Class (biology), subclass Hirudinea within the phylum Annelida. Brian Patrick Herbert (born June 29, 1947) is an American author, known for his work on the ''Dune'' franchise, which was created by his father, Frank Herbert. Brian Herbert's novels include ''Sidney's Comet'', ''Prisoners of Arionn'', ''Man of Two Worlds'' (written with his father), and ''Sudanna Sudanna''. In 2003, Herbert wrote a biography of his father titled '' Dreamer of Dune: The Biography of Frank Herbert''. Paul Atreides (; later known as Paul Muad'Dib, and later still as The Preacher) is a fictional character in the Dune (franchise), ''Dune'' universe created by Frank Herbert.
