Roadmarch
The Carnival Road March is the musical composition played most often at the "judging points" along the parade route during a Caribbean Carnival. Originating as part of the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, the term has been applied to other Caribbean carnivals. There it was and is still viewed as a musical genre. In Trinidad and Tobago the Road March title has been officially given out every year since 1932 (with the exception of the years affected by World War II when Carnival did not officially take place). Popular Unofficial Road Marches have also been recognized in T&T from since 1834 after slavery was abolished. Prior to World War II, T&T Road Marches were referred to as "Leggos" or "Breakaways" by the general population but were rebranded by the Carnival authorities as the Road March from 1946. Heavy Duty (Xtatik)
''Heavy Duty'' is an album released by popular Soca band Xtatik from Trinidad and Tobago in 1997. The album was considered one of the most successful Soca albums at the time of its release. In a 2004 interview, lead vocalist of the band Machel Montano claimed it was his favourite album of all time. The song ''Big Truck'' on the album won Trinidad's 1997 Annual Road March Competition for Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. Critical reception AllMusic gave the album a 4 out of 5 stars rating. Caribbean Carnival
Caribbean Carnival is the cultural celebration held annually throughout the year in many Caribbean islands and worldwide. It's a highly anticipated festival in the Caribbean where locals and visitors come together to dance, savor cultural music, and indulge in delicious foods. It stems from a pagan holiday, later adopted by the Roman Catholic Church as Carne Vale. European slave traders brought it to the Caribbean, excluding African slaves and hosting lavish masquerade balls. After emancipation, freed African slaves transformed the festival into a celebration of freedom, blending African heritage and Caribbean Creole culture. In 1834, the Caribbean festival took root in Trinidad and Tobago, when French settlers brought the Fat Tuesday masquerade tradition to the island. International Soca Monarch
International Soca Monarch was an annual soca music competition/fete event. The finals were traditionally held on every Carnival Friday (aka Fantastic Friday) in Trinidad and Tobago. Contestants in the event vied for two separate crowns or titles, the International Soca Monarch (aka the Power Soca Monarch) for uptempo songs (135 bpm and above), and Groovy Soca Monarch for slower-paced songs (134 bpm and below). Between 2016 and 2018 a change in format meant that contestants vied for only one award but this one category changed was reversed in 2019. In 2016 an additional award was added, called the People's Choice, then subsequently removed, which involves text message voting by Digicel subscribers. Subscribers could have voted multiple times for their favorite artist during the competition and the artist who received the most votes was given an additional cash prize. Edwin Ayoung (born 1944), better known as Crazy, is a Trinidadian calypsonian. He has been active since the mid-1970s and is one of the most successful artists from Trinidad and Tobago. David Rudder
The Honourable David Michael Rudder OCC (born 6 May 1953) is a Trinidadian calypsonian, known to be one of the most successful calypsonians of all time. He performed as lead singer for the brass band Charlie's Roots. Nine years later, Rudder stepped outside the band, entering the calypso tent as a solo calypsonian in 1986, which was followed by an unprecedented rise to fame. Patrice Roberts
Patrice Roberts (born 11 April 1986) is a Trinidadian soca singer. She is also a second cousin of singer Bunji Garlin. She came to national attention in 2005 with the hit collaboration "The Islands" alongside cousin Bunji Garlin, written by Kernal Roberts and produced by Shawn Noel (Da Mastermind), which was used in promotional commercials by the Ministry of Tourism.
