Ritonavir
Ritonavir, sold under the brand name Norvir, is an antiretroviral medication used along with other medications to treat HIV/AIDS. This combination treatment is known as highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Ritonavir is a protease inhibitor, though it now mainly serves to boost the potency of other protease inhibitor (pharmacology), protease inhibitors. It may also be used in combination with other medications to treat hepatitis C and COVID-19. It is taken Oral administration, by mouth. Common side effects of ritonavir include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and numbness of the hands and feet. Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir
Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir, sold under the brand name Paxlovid, is a co-packaged medication used as a treatment for COVID19. It contains the antiviral medications nirmatrelvir and ritonavir and was developed by Pfizer. Nirmatrelvir inhibits SARS-CoV-2 main protease, while ritonavir is a strong CYP3A inhibitor, slowing down nirmatrelvir metabolism and therefore boosting its effect. It is taken by mouth. In unvaccinated high-risk people with COVID19, nirmatrelvir/ritonavir can reduce the risk of hospitalization or death by 88% if taken within five days of symptom onset. People who take nirmatrelvir/ritonavir also test negative for COVID19 about two and a half days earlier than people who do not. Ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir
Ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir, sold under the brand name Technivie among others, is a medication used to treat hepatitis C. It is a fixed-dose combination of ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir. Specifically it is used together with dasabuvir or ribavirin for cases caused by hepatitis C virus genotype 1 or 4. Cure rates are around 95%. It is taken by mouth. It is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include nausea, itchiness, rash, and trouble sleeping. Other side effects include allergic reactions and reactivation of hepatitis B among those previously infected. Use is not recommended in those with significant liver problems. While there is no evidence of harm with use during pregnancy, this use has not been well studied. Each of the medications works by a different mechanism. Simnotrelvir/ritonavir (trade name Xiannuoxin) is a pharmaceutical drug used for the treatment of COVID-19. Simnotrelvir/ritonavir is a combination drug of simnotrelvir, an inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro, and ritonavir, a CYP3A inhibitor. The management of HIV/AIDS normally includes the use of multiple antiretroviral drugs as a strategy to control HIV infection.
