Straight Razor
A straight razor is a razor with a blade that can fold into its handle. They are also called open razors and cut-throat razors. The predecessors of the modern straight razors include bronze razors, with cutting edges and fixed handles, produced by craftsmen from Ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom (1569 — 1081 BC). Solid gold and copper razors were also found in Ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to the 4th millennium BC. The first steel-edged cutthroat razors were manufactured in Sheffield in 1680. By the late 1680s, early 1690s, razors with silver-covered handles along with other Sheffield-made products known as "Sheffield wares" were being exported to ports in the Gulf of Finland, approximately 1200 miles (1931 km) from Sheffield. From there, these goods were probably sent to Finland and even Russia. By 1740, Benjamin Huntsman was making straight razors complete with decorated handles and hollow-ground blades made from cast steel, using a process he invented. Huntsma ...

Atlantic Jackknife Clam
The Atlantic jackknife clam, ''Ensis leei'', also known as the bamboo clam, American jackknife clam or razor clam, is a large edible marine bivalve mollusc found on the North American Atlantic coast, from Canada to South Carolina. The species was also introduced to Europe at the end of the 70's and is already extremely abundant there in suitable habitats. The name " razor clam" is also used to refer to different species such as the Pacific razor clam (''Siliqua patula)'' or Razor shell (''Ensis magnus)''. Jackknife clams live in sand and mud and are found in intertidal or subtidal zones in bays and estuaries. Its streamlined shell and strong foot allow Jackknife clams to burrow quickly in wet sand. Jackknife clams are also able to swim by propelling jets of water out of their shells. The Jackknife clam gets its name from its shell's extremely sharp rim and the overall shape bearing a strong resemblance to an old fashioned straight razor. Beachgoers can be injured when the ...

Gould's Razor Shell
Gould's razor shell (''Solen strictus'') is a bivalve mollusc of the family Solenidae. It is common in Japan in sandy coastal zones of the western, southern and northeastern coasts, and also in South Korea, China and Taiwan. It lives on the sandy littoral zone The littoral zone, also called litoral or nearshore, is the part of a sea, lake, or river that is close to the shore. In coastal ecology, the littoral zone includes the intertidal zone extending from the high water mark (which is rarely flood ..., preferring the depth of about 20–50 cm. In Weifang Cadong Province, China, researches have found that living S''olen strictus'' weighs an average of 12g and measures to a length of 10cm. Pacific Razor Clam
The Pacific razor clam, ''Siliqua patula'', is a large mollusc native to North America belonging to the family Pharidae. Pacific razor clams are sexually dimorphic, but as with all clams, there is no way to tell the difference between sexes without dissecting them or evaluating them under a microscope. The shell ranges in colours as the clams grow, starting out brown, and turning to a more yellow colour as the clam matures, eventually turning brown once more as the clam reaches a larger size. It ranges from around 4-12 inches, and eats minuscule life in the ocean, such as plankton or plants. The Pacific razor clam is famously known for its delicious flavour, which makes it a largely hunted and coveted organism. Etymology The scientific name of the Pacific razor clam, ''Siliqua Patula'' comes from the Latin, siliqua, which means "pod", and patula, which means "open". The Pacific razor clam was so named because of how it looks, and how it resembles an open pod when exposed. The mor ...

Pinna Bicolor
''Pinna bicolor'', also known as razorfish, razor clam, or pen shell, is a species of large saltwater clam in the family ''Pinnidae''. It is commonly found in shallow waters up to deep. It can be found embedded in firm muddy intertidal sediments, seagrass beds, and reef flats along continental and island shores. Description ''P. bicolor'' have thin, elongated triangular shells that narrow to a point and range in color from light yellow-brown to dark brown. They are often overlooked as most of the shell is often buried with only about 2–3 cm of it sticking out of the ground. Glands near the buried end of the shell secrete byssus threads which allow the P. bicolor to attach itself to buried rocks and stones to anchor itself to the ground. When embedded in mud, the shell projects a fan shape as it is known to bury itself with the pointed end down. This earns it the moniker of "razor clam" in Australia due the danger these strong shells pose to waders and their abundance at ...

Razor Shell
The razor shell, ''Ensis magnus'', also called razor clam, razor fish or spoot (colloquially), is a bivalve of the family Pharidae. It is found on sandy beaches in Canada and northern Europe (north of the Bay of Biscay). In some locations, the common name "razor shell" is also used to refer to members of the family Solenidae, including species of the genera ''Ensis'' and '' Solen'', by some taxonomic classifications which include the family Pharidae within the family Solenidae. It prefers coarser sand than its relatives '' E. ensis'' and '' E. siliqua''. Description It is known for its elongated, rectangular shape, which presents a similarity to the straight razor, hence its name. The razor shell has been known to reach in length. The dorsal margin is straight while the ventral margin is curved. It can easily be confused with the slightly shorter and more curved ''E. ensis'' (in which both front and back are curved in parallel). Razor shells have a fragile shell, with open en ...

Rosy Razor Clam
''Solecurtus strigilatus'', also known as the rosy razor clam, is a species of saltwater clam, a marine (ocean), marine bivalve mollusc in the family Solecurtidae. This mollusc is a suspension feeder and can burrow with great rapidity antipredator adaptation, to escape predators. It is an unusual bivalve in that its shell valves are too small to contain all the soft tissue, and the animal is unable to retreat into its shell. Description The valves of the rosy razor clam are relatively small, thin and finely sculptured. At the anterior end of the animal there is a strong, protruding foot. At the posterior end, is the large mantle sac containing the gills; when relaxed, it protrudes and is twice the length of the valves, but it can be contracted back between the valves. Posterior to this are the two robust, contractile siphons. The maximum length of the shell is .
