Quick Commerce
Q-commerce, also referred to as quick commerce, is a type of e-commerce where emphasis is on quick deliveries, typically in less than an hour. Q-commerce originally started with food delivery and it still represents the largest chunk of the business. It has quickly expanded to other categories particularly for grocery delivery, medicines, gifts, and apparel. In early 2020, the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19 pandemic began to give a major boost to q-commerce as it allowed retailers to remain operational via quick home deliveries. At the time, it was speculated that prolonged restrictions would result in a long-term consumer behavior shift towards quick deliveries, establishing q-commerce as "the third generation of commerce". However, as pandemic restrictions began to lift and a burgeoning cost of living crisis made paying higher prices for rapid delivery less sustainable, demand for q-commerce in many parts of the world waned, causing businesses to downsize or fold altogether ... E-commerce (electronic commerce) refers to commercial activities including the electronic buying or selling products and services which are conducted on online platforms or over the Internet. A dark store (also dark shop, dark supermarket or dotcom centre) is a retail outlet or distribution centre that exists exclusively for online shopping. A dark store is generally a large warehouse that can be used either to facilitate a "click-and-collect" service, where a customer collects an item they have ordered online, or as an order fulfillment platform for online sales. Blink Commerce Private Limited, d/b/a Blinkit and formerly Grofers, is an Indian q-commerce, quick-commerce company owned by Eternal Limited. It was founded in December 2013 and is based in Gurgaon. Customers of the company use a Mobile application management, mobile application to order groceries and essentials online. Blinkit's employees then secure the items from their warehouse and deliver the items to the consumer within 10 minutes. By November 2021, the company was delivering 125,000 orders every day. Urbanfetch
Urbanfetch, founded in 1999 and closed in 2000, was a dot-com company from which customers ordered products (DVDs, music, books, snacks, gifts, etc.) online and had them delivered by bike messenger in less than an hour within certain delivery areas covering most of Manhattan and London. The company's business plan was essentially identical to that of Kozmo.com, which led to a lawsuit from them. Apparently, Urbanfetch founder Ross Stevens had been approached to fund Kozmo but instead launched a competing business with an identical business model. The suit was settled in December 1999. Like Kozmo, Urbanfetch charged no delivery fee and sometimes offered significant discounts. Kozmo.com was a venture capital–funded online company that promised free one-hour delivery of "videos, games, DVDs, music, mags, books, food, basics and more" and Starbucks coffee in several major cities in the United States. It was founded in March 1998 by young investment bankers Joseph Park and Yong Kang in New York City, and was out of business by April 2001.
