Prosecutor Of The International Criminal Court
The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is the officer of the International Criminal Court whose duties include the investigation and prosecution of the crimes under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes as well as the crime of aggression. The Prosecutor heads the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP). The current prosecutor is Karim Ahmad Khan, who was elected on 12 February 2021 and took office on 16 June 2021. His predecessor was Fatou Bensouda, who served from 16 June 2012 until 15 June 2021. Karim Ahmad Khan
Karim Asad Ahmad Khan (born 30 March 1970) is a British lawyer who has served as Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court since 2021. He specialises in international criminal law and international human rights law. Nazhat Shameem
Nazhat Shameem Khan (born 1960) is a Fijian diplomat, and former judge who served as the Permanent Representative of Fiji to the United Nations from 2014 to 2022. She was also the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2021. She served as a judge of the High Court of Fiji from 1999 to 2009, the first woman to do so. Genocide is violence that targets individuals because of their membership of a group and aims at the destruction of a people.
