President Of The Palestinian National Authority
The president of the Palestinian National Authority () is the highest-ranking political position (equivalent to head of state) in the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). From 2003 to 2013, the president appointed the prime minister of the Palestinian National Authority, who normally required approval of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and who shares executive and administrative power with the president. In 2013, that position was abolished and substituted by the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine position. Legal status The Palestinian National Authority (PNA or PA) was created by the 1994 Gaza–Jericho Agreement. Aziz Dweik
Aziz Dweik (; born 12 January 1947) is a Palestinian politician of Hamas who was elected the speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) on 18 January 2006. Hamas recognized Dweik as the interim president of the Palestinian National Authority and of the State of Palestine from 15 January 2009, when the elected term of Mahmoud Abbas officially expired, until 2 June 2014, when Hamas and Fatah agreed on the establishment of a national unity government under Abbas as President. President is a common title for the head of state in most republics. Depending on the country, a president could be head of government, a ceremonial figurehead, or something between these two extremes. The functions exercised by a president vary according to the form of government. Rami Hamdallah
Rami Hamdallah (; born 10 August 1958) is a Palestinian politician and academic. He served as Prime Minister of the State of Palestine from 2013 to 2019 and was previously the president of An-Najah National University in Nablus from 1998 to 2013. On 2 June 2013, the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas named him to succeed Salam Fayyad as prime minister. His appointment was not recognized by Hamas, who were not consulted in the decision. Salam Fayad
Salam Fayyad (; born 12 April 1952) is a Palestinian politician and economist who served as the first prime minister of Palestine from January 2013 until his resigned in July of that same year. He was previously the fourth prime minister of the Palestinian Authority from 2007 until the post was replaced. He was Finance Minister from June to 2005 and from March 2007 to May 2012. Fayyad resigned from the cabinet in November 2005 to run as founder and leader of the new Third Way party for the legislative elections of 2006. The 2005 Palestinian Presidential elections were held in the West Bank and Gaza Strip of the Palestinian National Authority on Sunday, 9 January 2005 to elect the President of the Palestinian Authority, President of the Palestinian National Authority, to succeed Yasser Arafat, who had died on 11 November 2004. The election was the first to be held since the 1996 Palestinian general election, 1996 general election, and voters elected Palestine Liberation Organization chairman Mahmoud Abbas for a four-year term. Rawhi Fattuh (, also transliterated as Rauhi Fattouh; born 23 August 1949) is the current Chairman of Palestinian Legislative Council, having held the position since February 2020. Yasser Arafat, who was the President of the Palestinian National Authority and Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, died unexpectedly on 11 November 2004, at the age of 75, after a short period of illness.
