Persian Onager
The Persian onager (''Equus hemionus onager''), also called the Persian wild ass or Persian zebra, is a subspecies of onager (Asiatic wild ass) native to Iran. It is listed as Critically Endangered species, Critically Endangered, with no more than 600 individuals left in the wild. Description Persian onagers are long, reach at the shoulder, and weigh . Females are slightly smaller than males. Typically the coat is a sandy red, with a brown dorsal stripe. Thin strips of white on either side of the dorsal stripe merge with the white patch on the rear. There is also white on the underside and flanks. Taxonomy and history The Persian onager is also simply named ' () meaning "zebra" in Persian language, Persian. "Onager" is from the Greek language, Greek ''ὄναγρος'' (onagros), meaning "wild ass". Yotvata Hai-Bar Nature Reserve
The Yotvata Hai-Bar Nature Reserve is a reintroduction, breeding and reacclimation center administered by the Israel Nature and National Parks Protection Authority, Israel Nature Reserves & National Parks Authority, situated in the Southern Arabah, Arava near Yotvata. The Yotvata Hai-Bar is the desert counterpart of the Carmel Hai-Bar Nature Reserve which operates in the country's Northern Mediterranean forest. Mountain Gazelle
The mountain gazelle (''Gazella gazella''), also called the true gazelle or the Palestine mountain gazelle, is a species of gazelle that is widely but unevenly distributed. Syrian Wild Ass
The Syrian wild ass (''Equus hemionus hemippus''), less commonly known as a hemippe, an achdari, or a Mesopotamian or Syrian onager, is an extinct subspecies of onager native to the Arabian Peninsula and surrounding areas. Front Royal is the only incorporated town in Warren County, Virginia, United States. The population was estimated at 15,400 as of 2023. It is the county seat of Warren County.
