Parliamentary Inquiry Committee
A parliamentary inquiry committee is an investigation committee of the legislative branch, which transforms the parliamentary house itself into a committee to hear testimonies and gather information directly. At the municipal level, its correct name is special inquiry committee. The committee is set up for a limited duration. Usually the committee delivers a report with conclusions and recommendations, in order to spur government action to improve policy or prevent similar events from happening again. A committee or commission is a body of one or more persons subordinate to a deliberative assembly or other form of organization. A committee may not itself be considered to be a form of assembly or a decision-making body. Usually, an assembly or organization sends matters to a committee as a way to explore them more fully than would be possible if the whole assembly or organization were considering them. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the two legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. The parliamentary inquiry into natural gas extraction Groningen () was a parliamentary inquiry by the Dutch House of Representatives between 2021 and 2023 and was investigating the natural gas extraction from the Groningen gas field and the problems that it caused. The goal of the inquiry was to gain insight into decision-making regarding natural gas extraction, earthquakes, damage handling and reinforcement of buildings. The inquiry concluded that the Dutch government and oil companies had systematically ignored the safety interests of Groningen residents. The parliamentary inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing by the Dutch House of Representatives that is investigating the government response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 4 November 2021, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted a motion by VVD MP Aukje de Vries calling for this parliamentary inquiry. Due to disagreement about the research proposal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Vera Bergkamp decided to postpone the inquiry. A motion by PVV parliamentary leader Geert Wilders after the House of Representatives elections of 22 November 2023 to continue the inquiry was unanimously adopted. Luís Roberto Barroso (; born 11 March 1958) is a Brazilian law professor, jurist, Justice and President of the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil, having been nominated to the position by President Dilma Rousseff in 2013.
