Otep
Otep was an American nu metal band. The band was formed in November 2000 in Los Angeles by frontwoman Otep Shamaya. The band is noted for their style of "art-house nu metal", and their strong political stances. Throughout the course of several lineup changes over the years, Shamaya was the only constant member in the band. After being selected by Sharon Osbourne to appear at Ozzfest 2001, Otep was signed to a record deal with Capitol Records without a Demo (music), demo in March 2001. Otep released two albums through Capitol, ''Sevas Tra'' (2002) and ''House of Secrets (album), House of Secrets'' (2004); both albums were moderate successes, and sold a combined total of 400,000 copies worldwide by 2006. ''Jihad'' (also known as ''Otep'' on European versions) is the debut Extended play, EP and release by American nu metal band Otep. It was released on June 19, 2001, by Capitol Records. It is the only Otep release to feature guitarists Traver Marsh and Dave "Spooky" Aguilera, who were fired from the band shortly after the EP's release. Background Otep was formed in November 2000. After an appearance at the Roxy Theatre (their fourth show) in February 2001, the band was selected by Sharon Osbourne to appear on the bill for Ozzfest 2001, despite the fact they had no record deal or Demo (music), demo. ''Hydra'' is the sixth studio album by the heavy metal band Otep. It was released in 2013 on Victory Records. ''Hydra'' is a concept album. This is their only album to feature drum programming as opposed to live drums. It is the band's last album on Victory, as they completed their three-album contract with this record. ''The Ascension'' (stylized as ''the_Ascension'') is the third studio album by Otep. The original release date was set for March 20, 2007 through Capitol Records, however, the album was delayed indefinitely due to the merger with Virgin Records. The album debuted at number 81 on the ''Billboard'' 200 with 10,200 copies sold. Recording The album was partly recorded in New Orleans, Louisiana, where producer Dave Fortman was living. New Orleans, especially the 9th Ward was still affected by the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Otep said that while the songs were not influenced by the area, the mood of the album was. The band began recording the album in late July 2006, and it was completed by the end of the year. Rob Patterson (born November 9, 1970) is an American guitarist and composer. Background Patterson was born in Natick, Massachusetts. His first major act was the female-fronted metal band, Otep. He wrote and played on the albums, '' Sevas Tra'', '' House of Secrets'' and '' Smash the Control Machine''. He was a touring guitarist for Korn from July 2005–March 2008, after the departure of Brian "Head" Welch. In April 2008, Patterson became engaged to Carmen Electra, but they never wed and split in 2012.
