Omer (unit)
The ''omer'' ( ''‘ōmer'') is an ancient Israelite unit of dry measure used in the era of the Temple in Jerusalem and also known as an isaron. It is used in the Bible as an ancient unit of volume for grains and dry commodities, and the Torah mentions it as being equal to one tenth of an ephah. Shulhan Arukh
The ''Shulhan Arukh'' ( ),, often called "the Code of Jewish Law", is the most widely consulted of the various legal codes in Rabbinic Judaism. It was authored in the city of Safed in what is now Israel by Joseph Karo in 1563 and published in Venice two years later. Together with its commentaries, it is the most widely accepted compilation of halakha or Jewish law ever written. Challah (, literally "Loaf") is the ninth tractate of '' Seder Zeraim'', the Order of Seeds. It discusses the laws of the dough offering, known in Hebrew as ''challah''. The Tosefta ( "supplement, addition") is a compilation of Jewish Oral Law from the late second century, the period of the Mishnah and the Jewish sages known as the '' Tannaim''. Background Jewish teachings of the Tannaitic period were characteristically transmitted orally, and consisted of short sayings presented with or without attribution, which were memorized through repetition (''Shanah'' in Hebrew) and recited in halls of study. The omer offering (''korban omer''), or the sheaf offering, was an offering (''korban'') made by the Jewish priests in the Temple in Jerusalem. Avraham Chaim Naeh (; 3 May 1890 – 21 July 1954) was a Lubavitcher Hasid and major ''posek'' (halachic authority) active during the first half of twentieth century.
