The tz database is a collaborative compilation of information about the world's time zones and rules for observing daylight saving time, primarily intended for use with computer programs and operating systems. Paul Eggert has been its editor and maintainer since 2005, with the organizational backing of ICANN. The tz database is also known as tzdata, the zoneinfo database or the IANA time zone database (after the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), and occasionally as the Olson database, referring to the founding contributor, Arthur David Olson. Its uniform naming convention for entries in the database, such as ''America/New_York'' and ''Europe/Paris'', was designed by Paul Eggert. The database attempts to record historical time zones and all civil changes since 1970, the Unix time epoch. It also records leap seconds. Olson Building
Olson Building, also known as Block 11A or 29 Mount Sophia, is a historic building that was on the campus of the Methodist Girls' School on Mount Sophia in Singapore. It has since been repurposed as a condominium clubhouse. Description The two-storey building features a high-pitched roof. According to the Urban Redevelopment Authority, it "resembles the former ACS Building by Frank Brewer, with its orderly window openings and clay-tiled canopies at the 1st storey that are well-suited to the tropical climate." The canopies are supported by masonry corbels, which were "carved in an elegant geometric design." It also features lattices made of moulded concrete and louvred vents made of concrete, thus allowing for cross-ventilation. History The building, which was designed by prominent architect Frank Wilmin Brewer to house six classrooms, was completed in 1928. This made it the oldest remaining building on the campus. Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute
The Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute is an outreach arm of Northland College (Wisconsin), Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. The institute originated in 1971 at an Environmentalism, environmental conference at Northland that hosted Sigurd Olson as a speaker. Robert Matteson was the founder of the institute. The Institute opened in Spring, 1972. LoonWatch LoonWatch, a program of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute, protects common loons and their aquatic habitats through education, monitoring, and research. Though their primary focus is Wisconsin, their education and research activities extend to Upper Great Lakes region, such as Michigan and Minnesota. The Watch also lends support to North American conservation efforts by working with loon conservation organizations across the United States and Canada. Olson Mountain
Olson Mountain, also known as Mount Olson, is a 7,913-foot-elevation (2,412 m) mountain summit located in the Livingston Range, of Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana. Olson Mountain rises more than above the western shore of Waterton Lake. The mountain was named for a surveyor on the International Boundary Survey, with the name officially adopted in 1929. The nearest higher peak is Campbell Mountain, to the north, and Citadel Peaks is two miles (3.2 km) to the south. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into Olson Creek before it empties to Waterton Lake. Climate Based on the Köppen climate classification, Olson Mountain is located in a subarctic climate zone characterized by long, usually very cold winters, and short, cool to mild summers.
