Newsboys
Newsboys (sometimes stylised as newsboys) are a Christian rock band that has existed in various permutations since its founding in 1985 in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia, by Peter Furler and George Perdikis. Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, the band has released 17 studio albums, 6 of which have been certified gold. As of 2025, the band consists of lead guitarist Jody Davis, keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein, drummer Duncan Phillips, and rhythm guitarist, bassist, and lead vocalist Adam Agee (formerly of Stellar Kart and Audio Adrenaline); no founding members are featured in the lineup. Michael Tait
Michael DeWayne Tait (born May 18, 1966) is an American contemporary Christian music artist. Tait met Toby McKeehan in 1984 when he was in high school. Both Tait and McKeehan and Michael met Kevin Max while attending Liberty University in the late 1980s, and together they formed four-time Grammy winning band DC Talk, releasing five acclaimed studio albums. Following the group's entrance into hiatus in 2000, Tait had success in a solo career, founding a self-titled band that toured until 2007. Following his solo band's dissolution, Tait was the lead singer of Newsboys from 2009 to 2025. Aside from singing, Tait is also a self-taught guitar player. Tait has a sister, Lynda Randle, who is a Southern Gospel singer. On June 10, 2025, it was reported that Tait was alleged to have groomed and sexually assaulted several men. Peter Furler
Peter Andrew Furler (born 8 September 1966) is an Australian musician, songwriter, producer and record executive, best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the Christian rock band Newsboys from 1986 to 2009. Biography Furler was born in McLaren Vale, South Australia on 8 September 1966, the third of six children of missionaries Bill and Rosalie Furler. Furler formed the Newsboys in 1985 with friends George Perdikis, Sean Taylor, and John James. He has written and produced most of Newsboys' songs, as well as co-writing/producing songs for other recording artists. He also frequently collaborated with Steve Taylor. Furler was originally the band's drummer and shared lead vocal duties, but became the band's primary lead singer after the departure of John James in 1997. Philip Joel Urry (born 5 January 1973) is a New Zealand musician known as the former bassist and vocalist for the Christian rock group Newsboys. Background Philip Joel Urry was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He was lead singer and guitarist for the band Drinkwater, of which released their eponymous six-track EP in 1991 and a full length CD, ''Three Murky Vibes'', in 1993. Urry was recruited as bass player for Newsboys after the band noticed him during Drinkwater's 1994 opening slot for Newsboys in Auckland. Urry moved to the United States to join the Newsboys on August 13, 1994 and soon after starting going by his middle name Joel to avoid potential pronunciation issues. ''Not Ashamed'' is the fourth studio album by Australian CCM band Newsboys, released in 1992. The album was the Newsboys' first commercially successful album, with "I'm Not Ashamed" becoming a hit on Christian radio. With this album, producer Steve Taylor started co-writing many of the band's songs with Peter Furler, who also began sharing lead vocals duties with then-primary vocalist John James. Paul Colman
Paul Colman is a British-Australian pop-rock guitarist, vocalist, pianist, and composer. He has earned recognition a Christian musician both independently and as part of his band, the Paul Colman Trio, as a solo artist, and with the band Newsboys. His songwriting talents have been recognized with a Grammy nomination and several Dove Awards. Colman was born and raised in London to an Australian father and a British mother. At the age of seven, his father transitioned from a successful career in theatre and music to a life of ministry in Australia. Roland Stephen Taylor (born December 9, 1957) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, music executive, film maker, assistant professor, and actor. A figure in what has come to be known as Christian alternative rock, Taylor enjoyed a successful solo career during the 1980s, and also served in the short-lived group Chagall Guevara. In contrast to many Christian musical artists, his songs have often taken aim at Christian hypocrisy or "error" with the use of satirical, sardonic lyrics. Bryan Olesen is a Christian rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. Biography Bryan David Olesen was born on November 1, 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut, to John and Norine Olesen. He married Jennifer Hines on August 23, 1997 and they have three children. Olesen was in the Christian bands Newsboys and VOTA. He filled in on lead guitar while Jody Davis (of the Newsboys) was caring for Davis' daughter during an illness. Olesen is featured on the Newsboys album "Devotion" 2004. Audio Adrenaline
Audio Adrenaline was an American Christian rock band that formed in 1986 at Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, Kentucky. The band gained recognition during the 1990s and received two Grammy Awards and multiple Dove Awards. Audio Adrenaline were regular performers at the annual Creation Festival, Spirit West Coast festival, Agape Music Festival, and Alive Festival. In 2007, the group disbanded due to lead singer Mark Stuart's spasmodic dysphonia. After a hiatus, the band reformed in 2012 with only bassist Will McGinniss returning from the original line-up.
