Nash's
Nash's (F. C. Nash & Co.) was a Pasadena, California-based department store which grew into a small chain. Nash's was founded in 1889 by Hammond G. Nash, who developed his grocery on Colorado Street into a full department store. He continued to open locations in nearby towns: *Alhambra, downtown at 36 West Main Street *Pomona at Indian Hill Mall, later 450 Pomona Mall, the town's downtown pedestrian mall *West Arcadia at the Arcadia Hub shopping center (1325 South Baldwin Avenue), current site of L. A. Fitness *Whittier at Whittier Quad, , opened 1954 *Fullerton at intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue The Pasadena flagship was located downtown 250 East Colorado Boulevard, but burned in a 1976 fire and was a total loss. Pomona Mall
Pomona Mall was a pedestrian mall in downtown Pomona, California, recognized by the Los Angeles Conservancy as an outstanding example of Mid-century modern and modern architecture and design. It was completed in 1962 and designed by Millard Sheets. It had been in the planning for five years, one element in a larger plan of civic improvements covering the whole city. Pomona Mall took nine blocks of the existing downtown shopping district, pedestrianized it and added trees, benches, artwork, fountains and adjacent parking. Much of the art is still in place, mosaics and sculptures by Millard Sheets himself, Arthur and Jean Ames, Betty Davenport Ford, and John Svenson. Sheets asked his friend and patron Howard Ahmanson to locate a new Home Savings and Loan branch on the mall, also designed by Sheets with a notable tower. Whittier Quad
The Quad at Whittier is a shopping mall in Whittier, California. History It was built in 1953 and expanded in 1965 with the addition of a 3-story, 248,000-square-foot May Company California department store. Arcadia-based Hinshaw's and Pasadena-based Nash's were other major tenants. The center began to seriously struggle in 1986 after May Company closed, though it had not been a solid performer beforehand. Without May, merchants struggled due to poor visibility as commercial centers on Whittier Boulevard siphoned off traffic. A minor renovation including new landscaping and the demolition of a small portion of the center had begun by March 1987. The 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake collapsed the parking garage in front of the May building, leading to its demolition. Harbor Boulevard (formerly Spadra Road) is a north–south road corridor in the counties of Los Angeles and Orange. One of the busiest routes in Orange County, the thoroughfare passes through some of the most densely populated areas in the region and carries about 8 percent of the county's bus riders.
