Muzzleloading is the shooting sport of firing muzzleloader, muzzleloading guns. Muzzleloading guns, both antique and reproduction, are used for target shooting, hunting, historical re-enactment and historical research. The sport originated in the United States in the 1930s, just as the last original users and makers of muzzleloading arms were dying out. The sport received a tremendous boost in the 1960s and 1970s. The Muzzle Loaders Associations International Committee (www.MLAIC.org) was formed in 1970 and held its first World Championship in 1971. Since then a flourishing industry manufacturing working reproductions of historic firearms now exists in the United States and Europe, particularly in northern Italy, for example at Gardone Val Trompia, in the Province of Brescia. Muzzleloader
A muzzleloader is any firearm in which the user loads the bullet, projectile and the propellant charge into the Muzzle (firearms), muzzle end of the gun (i.e., from the forward, open end of the gun's barrel). This is distinct from the modern designs of Breechloader, breech-loading firearms, in which user loads the ammunition into the Chamber (firearms), breech end of the gun barrel, barrel. The term "muzzleloader" applies to both rifled and smoothbore type muzzleloaders, and may also refer to the marksman who specializes in the shooting of such firearms. The firing methods, paraphernalia and mechanism further divide both categories as do caliber (from cannons to small-caliber palm guns). Shooting sports is a group of competitive and recreational sporting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in shooting — the art of using ranged weapons, mainly small arms (firearms and airguns, in forms such as handguns, rifles and shotguns) and bows/crossbows. Knight Rifles is an American manufacturer of modern muzzleloading rifles and shotguns that pioneered the in-line muzzleloader in the mid-1980s. The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA) is the largest membership based association in the sport of muzzleloading in the United States. The Association was founded in 1933 and is known for leading the effort to preserve the history of the United States through muzzleloading shooting sports & living history events. Cowboy action shooting (CAS, also known as Western action shooting, single action shooting, cowboy 3-gun, and Western 3-gun) is a competitive shooting sport that originated in 1981 at the Coto de Caza Shooting Range in Orange County, California. Muzzle Loaders Associations International Committee
The Muzzle Loaders Associations International Committee (MLAIC) is the world governing body for competition with muzzle-loading firearms, both originals (made prior to 1900) and replicas thereof. MLAIC organises World Championships on even-numbered years, with European and Long Range Championships run in odd-numbered years. In 2022, Deutscher Schützenbund hosted the 29th World Championship in Pforzheim, Germany. Friendship, Indiana
Friendship is an unincorporated community (village) on State Road 62, (Chief White Eye Trail) Brown Township, Ripley County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History There are multiple stories about how Friendship obtained its name, the following are a couple of stories. Originally named Paul Town after Daniel F. Paul, an early settler who opened a general store in his residence. The village's mail was being sent to Ballstown in Ripley County, Indiana, the village was then renamed to Hart's Mill after the Harts, William, Robert, and Hiram.
