Photomontage
Photomontage is the process and the result of making a composite photograph by cutting, gluing, rearranging and overlapping two or more photographs into a new image. Sometimes the resulting composite image is photographed so that the final image may appear as a seamless physical print. A similar method, although one that does not use film, is realized today through image-editing software. This latter technique is referred to by professionals as " compositing", and in casual usage is often called " photoshopping" (from the name of the popular software system). A composite of related photographs to extend a view of a single scene or subject would not be labeled as a montage, but instead a stitched image or a digital image mosaic. History Author Oliver Grau in his book, ''Virtual Art: From Illusion to Immersion'', notes that the creation of an artificial immersive virtual reality, arising as a result of technical exploitation of new inventions, is a long-standing human practice t ...

Montage (filmmaking)
Montage (, ''mon-TAHJ'') is a film editing technique in which a series of short shots are sequenced to condense space, time, and information. The term has been used in various contexts. In French, the word "montage" applied to cinema simply denotes editing. In Soviet montage theory, as originally introduced outside the USSR by Sergei Eisenstein, it was used to create symbolism. Later, the term "montage sequence", used primarily by British and American studios, became the common technique to suggest the passage of time. A montage is a French term meaning “assembling shots” or “putting together.” It’s a film technique for putting together a series of short shots that create a composite picture. In simple terms we can say that montage is a series of separate images, moving or still, that are edited together to create a continuous sequence. Montages enable filmmakers to communicate a large amount of information to an audience over a shorter span of time by juxtaposing ...

Montage (music)
In music, montage (literally "putting together") or sound collage ("gluing together") is a technique where newly branded sound objects or compositions, including songs, are created from collage, also known as montage. This is often done through the use of sampling, while some playable sound collages were produced by gluing together sectors of different vinyl records. In any case, it may be achieved through the use of previous sound recordings or musical scores. Like its visual cousin, the collage work may have a completely different effect than that of the component parts, even if the original parts are completely recognizable or from only one source. History The origin of sound collage can be traced back to the works of Biber's programmatic sonata ''Battalia'' (1673) and Mozart's ''Don Giovanni'' (1789), and some critics have described certain passages in Mahler symphonies as collage, but the first fully developed collages occur in a few works by Charles Ives, whose piece ...

Montage (image Software)
Montage is a software toolkit used in astrophotography to assemble astronomical images in Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) format into composite images, called mosaics, that preserve the calibration and positional fidelity of the original input images. It won a NASA Space Act Award in 2006. Montage was developed to support scientific research. It enables astronomers to create images of regions of the sky that are too large to be produced by astronomical cameras. It also creates composite images of a region of the sky that has been measured with different wavelengths and with different instruments; the composite appears as if the area was measured with the same instrument on the same telescope. There is also associated software developed by the Montage user community including Bash and C shell scripts to make mosaics, and the montage-wrapper Python application programming interface, a part of the Astropy project. Montage uses a BSD 3-Clause License, which permits unlimi ...
