Hmong People
The Hmong people ( RPA: , CHV: ''Hmôngz'', Nyiakeng Puachue: , Pahawh Hmong: , , zh, c=苗族蒙人) are an indigenous group in East Asia and Southeast Asia. In China, the Hmong people are classified as a sub-group of the Miao people. The modern Hmong reside mainly in Southwestern China and Mainland Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. There are also diaspora communities in the United States, Australia, France, and South America. Etymology The term ''Hmong'' is the English pronunciation of the Hmong's native name. It is a singular and plural noun (e.g., Japanese, French, etc.). Very little is known about the native Hmong name as it is not mentioned in Chinese historical records, since the Han identified the Hmong as Miao. The meaning of it is debatable and no one is sure of its origin, although it can be traced back to several provinces in China. Bob Mong
Bob Mong is an American journalist and academic administrator. He worked in journalism for 46 years, including as editor of the ''Dallas Morning News'', before being named the third president of University of North Texas at Dallas in July 2015. Mong also oversaw the UNT Dallas College of Law, which moved under the supervision of UNT Dallas on September 1, 2015. He announced his retirement in January 2024 and stepped down as president in July 2024 after nine years in the role. Education and early career An Ohio native, Mong graduated in 1971 from Haverford College in Pennsylvania with a bachelor of arts degree. Mong Thongdee
Mong Thongdee (born c. 1997) is a formerly stateless person from Thailand. He became known in 2008–2009, when he won a national paper plane competition and was chosen to represent Thailand in the All Japan Origami Airplane Competition in Chiba Prefecture. However, being born to Shan migrant worker parents from Myanmar, he did not have Thai nationality, and his stateless status meant that he could not obtain travel documents in order to leave the country. His case became a focus of national attention, and after meeting with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Mong was granted a temporary passport allowing him to travel. He placed third in the singles competition and with two other teammates won the team event for Thailand. Despite the case raising awareness on the issues facing stateless children in Thailand, and promises of citizenship by government officials, by 2017 Mong still had not obtained Thai nationality. Shin Dong-hyun (; born September 4, 1979), better known by his stage name MC Mong, is a South Korean hip hop recording artist, record producer, radio personality, actor and television personality who is known for his comic disposition and his upbeat songs. Mong or Mung (مونگ ) is a village and Union Council of Mandi Bahauddin District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. History According to Alexander Cunningham, Mong was built on the ancient city of Nicaea which was founded by Alexander the Great in commemoration of his victory over Porus in the Battle of the Hydaspes. Mong, Azad Kashmir
Mang (also called Mong) is a town in Sudhanoti District of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. Geography Mang consists of 7 villages and 2 union councils: Mang and Patan Sher Khan. Mong is well connected by roads to major cities of Kashmir and Pakistan. Mang is connected to Pallandri, Rawalakot, Thorar. Daily buses carry passengers inter-state as well as within the city. The nearest major airport is located at Rawalakot which isn't operational so nearest is Islamabad International Airport. History Mang is a stronghold of the Sudhan tribe, and served important roles as a fortress in the 1837 Poonch Revolt and as a base of operations in the 1947 Poonch Revolt. Mong Circle
The Mong Circle (, ) is one of three hereditary chiefdoms (or "circles") in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of modern-day Bangladesh. The jurisdiction of the Mong Circle encompasses parts of Khagrachhari District. The chiefdom's members are of Marma descent and are known as ''phalansa''. Most inhabitants of the Mong Circle settled in the northwest during a migration wave from the Kingdom of Mrauk U (modern-day Arakan State in Myanmar) between the 16th and 18th centuries, while inhabitants of the other Marma chiefdom, the Bohmong Circle settled in the south and are known as ''ragraisa''.
