Oxyhalide
In chemistry, molecular oxohalides (oxyhalides) are a group of chemical compounds in which both oxygen and halogen atoms are attached to another chemical element A in a single molecule. They have the general formula , where X = fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), and/or iodine (I). The element A may be a main group element, a transition element or an actinide. The term ''oxohalide'', or ''oxyhalide'', may also refer to minerals and other crystalline substances with the same overall chemical formula, but having an ionic structure. Synthesis Oxohalides can be seen as compounds intermediate between oxides and halides. There are three general methods of synthesis: *Partial oxidation of a halide: *:2 PCl3 + O2 -> 2 POCl3 **In this example, the oxidation state increases by two and the electrical charge is unchanged. *Partial halogenation of an oxide: *:2 V2O5 + 6 Cl2 + 3 C -> 4 VOCl3 + 3 CO2 *Oxide replacement: *: rO42- + 2 Cl- + 4 H+ -> CrO2Cl2 + 4 H2O In addition, v ... Molybdenum Oxytetrachloride
Molybdenum oxytetrachloride is the inorganic compound with the formula MoOCl4. This thermally unstable, dark green solid is used to prepare other complexes of molybdenum. It adopts a square pyramidal structure of C4v symmetry. As for other Mo(VI) compounds, it is diamagnetic. It decomposes thermally to MoOCl3. Preparation It is prepared by treating molybdenum pentachloride with oxygen. It also arises by chlorination of molybdenum trioxide Molybdenum trioxide describes a family of inorganic compounds with the formula MoO3(H2O)n where n = 0, 1, 2. These compounds are produced on the largest scale of any molybdenum compound. The anhydrous oxide is a precursor to molybdenum metal, a ...: :MoO3 + 2 SOCl2 → MoOCl4 + 2 SO2 See also * Molybdenum dichloride dioxide References {{Molybdenum compounds Oxychlorides Molybdenum(VI) compounds ... Molybdenum Dichloride Dioxide
Molybdenum dichloride dioxide is the inorganic compound with the formula MoO2Cl2. It is a yellow diamagnetic solid that is used as a precursor to other molybdenum compounds. Molybdenum dichloride dioxide is one of several oxychlorides of molybdenum. Structure Gaseous molybdenum dichloride dioxide is a monomer, but upon condensation, it polymerizes to give a coordination polymer of uncertain structure. Preparation The compound is most easily prepared by treatment molybdenum trioxide with concentrated hydrochloric acid: :MoO3 + 2 HCl → MoO2Cl2 + H2O MoO2Cl2 can also be prepared from MoOCl4: :MoOCl4 + O(Si(CH3)3)2 → MoO2Cl2 + 2 ClSi(CH3)3 It is also prepared by chlorination of molybdenum dioxide: :MoO2 + Cl2 → MoO2Cl2 It is also prepared by chlorination of molybdenum trixoide: :MoO3 + Cl2 → MoO2Cl2 Reactions Many bisadducts are known of the type MoO2Cl2(ether)2. These octahedral molecular complexes are soluble in organic solvents. With bulky anili ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
