Minister For Greenland
Minister of Greenland () was a cabinet post for affairs with the Danish Arctic territory. Tom Høyem was Minister from 1982 and served till 1987 briefly (succeeded by Mimi Jakobsen). In September 1987 the post was eliminated, and responsibility transferred to the Prime Minister's Office. Since 1979, Greenland has been governed locally through Home Rule with a parliament. Tom Høyem
Tom Høyem (born 10 October 1941) is a Danish and German politician, and former headmaster in the European Schools. Political career in Denmark Between September 1982 and September 1987, Høyem served as Minister for Greenland within the Danish government under the premiership of Poul Schlüter. He was succeeded by Mimi Jakobsen. On 14 September 1984, Høyem was awarded the honour of kommandør af Dannebrogordenen. Høyem has served as independent election observer for Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on behalf of the Danish government in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Ukraine, the State of Palestine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mimi Jakobsen
Mimi Jakobsen (born 19 November 1948 in Copenhagen) is a Danish former politician and government minister and secretary general of the Danish chapter of the International Save the Children Alliance. After 15 years she resigned from her position as secretary general of Save the Children Denmark on 17 June 2015. From 1989 to 2005 she was leader of the Centre Democrats, a political party formed by her father, former Social Democrat Erhard Jakobsen, in 1973. She was minister of culture in the mid-1980s. Home Rule
Home rule is the government of a colony, dependent country, or region by its own citizens. Johannes Kjærbøl
Johannes Kjærbøl (1885–1973) was a Danish politician. He was a member of the Social Democrats and served at the Parliament from 1935 to 1957. He held various cabinet posts between 1935 and 1959. Early life and education Kjærbøl was born in Copenhagen on 23 December 1885. His parents were parish priest Johannes Meller Valeur and Julie Severine Hansen. Mikael Gam
Mikael Gam (1901–1982) was a Danish educator and independent politician. After working as a teacher and school administrator in Greenland he became a member of the Danish Parliament in 1960 and served in the post until 1960. During the same period he was the minister for Greenland. Biography Gam was born in Sinding near Silkeborg on 14 February 1901. He was a teacher by training and settled in Greenland in 1925. Knud Hertling
Knud Ludvig Johannes Hertling (7 January 1925 in Paamiut (Frederikshåb) – 26 October 2010) was a Greenlandic-Danish politician from the Social Democrats. He served as Minister for Greenland from 1971 to 1973 under prime ministers Jens Otto Krag and Anker Jørgensen. Hertling was a Greenlandic member of the Folketing from 1964 to 1973. He founded the party Sukaq in 1969, the first political party to be established in Greenland. His aim was to work for greater home rule for Greenland. Hertling was the first Greenlander to hold a ministerial post in the Danish government. Personal life Hertling was born in Paamiut, but was raised in Aasiaat. Holger Hansen
Holger Hansen (1929–2015) was a Danish academic, jurist and politician from Venstre who served as the minister of environment and minister of Greenland in the cabinet of Poul Hartling from 1973 to 1975. Trained as an agronomist, he received a law degree and worked as an academic after retiring from politics. Early life and education Hansen was born in Tågeby near Mern on 16 May 1929.
