Francis Suarez
Francis Xavier Suarez ( ; born October 6, 1977) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the 43rd List of mayors of Miami, mayor of Miami since 2017. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, he previously served as a member of the Miami#Law and Government, Miami City Commission from 2009 to 2017. He is the son of former Miami mayor Xavier Suarez. Suarez is a graduate of Florida International University (FIU), where he earned a bachelor's degree in finance. After that he earned a Juris Doctor, J.D. from the University of Florida in 2004. He was first elected to represent the 4th district in the Miami City Commission in 2009 and was reelected in 2011 and 2015. Robert King High (April 9, 1924 – August 30, 1967) was an attorney and politician, a reform mayor of Miami, Florida, serving for over a decade from January 1957 until his death in August 1967. From eastern Tennessee, High moved to Florida after his service in World War II. He became active in the Democratic Party. In 1966, High was the Democratic nominee for governor of Florida, but he was defeated by Republican Claude Kirk in an upset election at a time when the Democratic Party generally still dominated state politics. Early life and education High was born in 1924 in Flat Creek, Tennessee, where his father was a carpenter and farmer. With the coming of the Great Depression, the High family moved to the city of Chattanooga. Randall Norton Christmas (October 14, 1920 – July 27, 1969) was an American politician and attorney who served as the 28th mayor of Miami from 1955 to 1957. Early life and education Christmas was born on October 14, 1920, in Ocilla, Georgia, In 1926, the Christmas family relocated to Miami. The sixth of seven siblings, Christmas began working as a young boy delivering the ''Miami Herald''. He attended Edison High School, where he graduated in 1938. Abraham "Abe" Aronovitz (October 15, 1898 – July 11, 1960) was an American lawyer and politician who served one term as mayor of Miami, Florida, from 1953 until 1955. He had a seat on the City Commission until 1958. Background Aronovitz was born on October 15, 1898, in New York City. He was one of six sons of Romanian Jewish immigrants, David and Kate Aronovitz.
