The Mayor of Hawaiʻi is the chief executive officer of the Hawaii County, Hawaii, County of Hawaiʻi in the U.S. state, state of Hawaii. The mayor has municipal jurisdiction over the Hawaii (island), Big Island of Hawaiʻi. The current mayor is Kimo Alameda. The Mayor of Hawaiʻi County is the successor of the Governors of Hawaii (island), Royal Governors of Hawaiʻi Island of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. As of 2004, the mayor is officially a nonpartisan position, and appear on the ballot without a party affiliation. The Hawaii State Senate ( Hawaiian: Ka ‘Aha Kenekoa) is the upper house of the Hawaii State Legislature. It consists of twenty-five members elected from an equal number of constituent districts across the islands and is led by the President of the Senate, elected from the membership of the body, currently Ron Kouchi. Billy Kenoi
William P. Kenoi (November 9, 1968 – January 26, 2021) was an American politician who served as Mayor of Hawaii County from 2008 to 2016. Before being elected mayor, Kenoi served as a legislative aide in the State House and State Senate, a law clerk, a deputy public defender, and an Executive Assistant to then-mayor Harry Kim. Early life and education Kenoi was born in Kalapana, and attended Waiakea High School. Kenoi attended both Hawaiʻi Community College and University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, but then transferred to University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1990, and graduated in 1993. Harry Kim (politician)
Harry Kim (born 1939) is an American politician who was the mayor of Hawaii County, from 2000 to 2008 and 2016 to 2020. Before serving as mayor, he was the county's civil defense director. Early life Kim was born to Korean-American immigrants, the youngest of eight children. He was raised in ‘Ola‘a in what was then the Territory of Hawaii (now Keaau, Hawaii). They resided in a one-bedroom house with no electricity or running water. He and his siblings would often work for the family business and perform other chores to the point where he was surprised when he learned of a typical weekend. He attended Ola'a School and Hilo High School. He then attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo and graduated from Southern Oregon State University. Lorraine Inouye
Lorraine Rodero Inouye (born June 22, 1940) is an American politician from the state of Hawaii. A member of the Democratic Party, she serves in the Hawaii State Senate, representing District 4. She is not related to U.S. senator Daniel Inouye. Political career Inouye was elected to the Hawaii County Council in 1984. In 1990, Inouye ran in a special election to serve the remainder of the term of Bernard Akana, who died in office, as Mayor of Hawaii County. She defeated Stephen K. Yamashiro by 76 votes, becoming the first Filipino-American woman to serve as the mayor of a U.S. County. She ran for re-election in 1992 but lost to Yamashiro.
