Yaron Matras (born 24 October 1963) is a linguist specializing in Romani, Kurdish, and other languages of the Middle East. He is one of the most prominent English-language Romani linguists and the author of several pioneering studies, including a book on ''Romani: A Linguistic Introduction'' (Cambridge University Press, 2002) and on ''Romani in Britain: The afterlife of a language'' (Edinburgh University Press, 2010), and ''A Grammar of Domari'' (De Gruyter Mouton, 2012). Matras organized the First International Conference on Romani Linguistics in 1993, and has served as Editor of the cross-disciplinary journal '' Romani Studies'' since 1999. In his previous role at the University of Manchester he coordinated the Romani Project and in 2010 he launched the Multilingual Manchester project. Agnieszka Barbara Matras-Clement (née Matras; born 5 December 1982) is a Polish and Canadian (from 2016) chess FIDE titles, Woman International Master (WIM) (2000). Biography Agnieszka Matras is a multiple medalist of the Polish Youth Chess Championships: three times gold (Trzebinia 1999 - U20 girl's age group, Wisła 2000 - U18 girl's age group, Trzebinia 2002 - U20 girl's age group), silver (Brzeg Dolny 2001 - U20 girl's age group) and twice bronze (Babimost 1997 - U20 girl's age group, Trzebinia 1998 - U20 girl's age group). Christian Matras (poet)
Christian Matras (7 December 1900 – 16 October 1988) was a Faroese poet and academic. He was the founding professor of the University of the Faroe Islands. He is one of the most important poets in Faroese literature. Life Christian Matras was born in the village Viðareiði, Viðoy, located at far northern end of the Faroe Islands. The surname Matras goes back to an immigrant from France. He attended primary school until he moved to Tórshavn in 1912, where he attended secondary school. He was in a class with Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen and William Heinesen.
