Master Blender
A master blender is an individual who develops specific blended spirits using a combination of spirits with different characteristics. For example, in the Scotch whisky industry, master blenders choose which single malts and grain whiskies to combine to make particular brands of blended whisky. A master blender is not the same thing as a master distiller, although one person may do both jobs at small craft distilleries. As the name suggests, the blender creates blends using spirits from different casks and is responsible for making sure the product remains consistent across different batches, while the distiller is either directly responsible for the mashing and distilling of spirits or simply holds the title as the administrative and marketing figurehead of the company. Jameson () is a blended Irish whiskey produced by the Irish Distillers subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. Grant's is a blended whisky, blended Scotch whisky, produced by the company William Grant & Sons in Scotland. It is the world's third highest selling Scotch whisky. History In 1886, William Grant (businessman), William Grant started working in the distillery business as a bookkeeper. In 1898, Pattisons (whisky company), Pattisons, the largest Scotch whisky blender at the time, went bankrupt, and William Grant stepped in and launched Grant's whisky. BenRiach Distillery
BenRiach distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in the Speyside area of Scotland. It is currently owned by Brown-Forman Corporation. History The BenRiach Distillery was established by John Duff in 1898, in North Speyside, south of Elgin, close to the Longmorn Distillery which was also owned by Duff. The distilleries were joined by a private railway, with a private steam locomotive, the ''Puggy'', to transport coal, barley, peat and barrels between the distilleries. Soon after the railway was established in 1900 the distillery stopped production in the wake of the bankruptcy of Pattisons Ltd., a major Scotch whisky purchaser. Pisco is a colorless or yellowish-to-amber-colored spirit produced in winemaking regions of Peru and Chile.
