Make-up Artist
A make-up artist, also called a makeup artist, and often shortened to MUA, is an artist whose medium is the human body, applying makeup and Prosthetic makeup, prosthetics on others for theatre, television, film, fashion, magazines and other similar productions including all aspects of the modeling industry. Awards given for this profession in the entertainment industry include the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and entertainment industry awards such as the Emmy Awards, and the Golden Globe Award, Golden Globes. In some countries professional licenses are required by agencies in order for them to hire the MUA. Bigger production companies have in-house makeup artists on their payroll although most MUA's generally are freelance and their times remain flexible depending on the project. Monte Westmore
Montague "Monte" Westmore (22 July 1902 – 30 March 1940) was a Hollywood make-up artist, the eldest of six sons of George Westmore. He worked for both the Famous Players–Lasky studio and Selznick International Pictures. He was the head of the makeup department at Selznick and worked on films including ''Gone with the Wind'' (1939) and ''Rebecca'' (1940). His death from a heart attack following a tonsillectomy has been credited to the heavy workload on ''Gone with the Wind''. He had three sons, Marvin, Michael, and Monty, all of whom also became make-up artists. Biography Monte was a member of the Westmore family and the oldest of George Westmore's six sons. He was born in Newport, Isle of Wight. Monte was the first of them to leave home, and in 1920 he began to work first in a lumber mill and then as a busboy at the Famous Players–Lasky studio. Richard Alan "Rick" Baker (born December 8, 1950) is a retired American special make-up effects creator and actor. He is mostly known for his creature designs and effects. Baker has won the Academy Award for Best Makeup a record seven times from a record eleven nominations, beginning when he won the inaugural award for the 1981 horror comedy film ''An American Werewolf in London''. Early life Baker was born on December 8, 1950, in Binghamton, New York, to Doris (née Hamlin), a bank teller, and Ralph B. Baker, a professional artist. Kevyn Aucoin
Kevyn James Aucoin (; February 14, 1962 – May 7, 2002) was an American make-up artist, photographer and author. He authored several books with makeup techniques including facial contouring, which was relatively unknown in popular culture at the time, but pioneered and used in drag culture and stage makeup for decades prior. Early life Aucoin was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. Daniel Bauer (born 8 July 1976) is an Australian-born, Mumbai-based make-up artist and hairstylist known for his red carpet makeup work for Bollywood celebrities, his work for the Lakme Fashion Week and his makeup and hair styling academy.
