La France Insoumise Group
The La France insoumise – New Popular Front group () is a parliamentary group in the National Assembly founded following the 2017 legislative election. It is chaired by Mathilde Panot since 2021, having previously been led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon between 2017 and 2021. As of 2023, the group, which includes representatives of La France Insoumise (FI) and other left-wing parties, has seventy five members. History In the 2017 legislative election, La France Insoumise (FI), the movement founded by Jean-Luc Mélenchon prior to the presidential election, failed to secure an alliance with the French Communist Party (PCF) permitting common investitures between the two movements. The National Assembly (, ) is the lower house of the Bicameralism, bicameral French Parliament under the French Fifth Republic, Fifth Republic, the upper house being the Senate (France), Senate (). 2017 French Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in France on 23 April and 7 May 2017. Incumbent president François Hollande of the Socialist Party (France), Socialist Party (PS) was eligible to run for a second term, but declared on 1 December 2016 that he would not seek reelection in light of low approval ratings, making him the first incumbent head of state of the French Fifth Republic, Fifth Republic not to seek reelection. Michel Larive
Michel Larive (born 22 August 1966) is a French politician representing la France Insoumise. He was deputy for Ariège's 2nd constituency from 2017 to 2022. In the 2022 French legislative election, he was the only La France Insoumise MP to lose his seat. He lost it to dissident candidate Socialist Party candidate Laurent Panifous. Ugo Bernalicis (; born 25 September 1989) is a French politician and represents the department of Nord, in the French National Assembly. Biography Early life Ugo Bernalicis was born into a family close to the communist movement, with a militant father, an elected grandfather and a great-grandfather who was deported to the Dachau concentration camp because of his political convictions. He grew up in the countryside near Arras. Whilst a student at Charles de Gaulle University – Lille III, Ugo Bernalicis joined the Union Nationale des Étudiants de France. Éric Coquerel (; born 30 December 1958) is a French politician representing La France Insoumise (LFI). He was elected to the French National Assembly on 18 June 2017, representing the department of Seine-Saint-Denis. Alexis Corbière
Alexis Corbière (; born 17 August 1968) is a French politician. He has been member of the National Assembly for the 7th constituency of the Seine-Saint-Denis department since 2017. Corbière was also a spokesperson for La France Insoumise and the party's leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the 2017 French presidential election, before falling out of favor with party leadership prior to the snap 2024 legislative election, in which La France Insoumise supported a previously-unelected candidate against Corbière. He survived the "purge" by winning the 7th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis with 57.16% of the vote. A former member of the Revolutionary Communist League from 1993 to 1997, Corbière then joined the Socialist Party where he was elected as the deputy mayor for the 12th arrondissement of Paris in 2001 and would continue to hold this position until 2014. Bastien Lachaud (born 5 August 1980) is a French politician representing La France insoumise (Rebellious France). He was elected to the French National Assembly on 18 June 2017, representing the department of Seine-Saint-Denis. Formerly a History teacher, Lachaud was a member of the Socialist Party until 2008, when he left the party to join the newly formed "Parti de Gauche" ( Left Party), where he hold the position of Secretary National for the party.
