Kudal
Kudal is a census town in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, India. It is situated on River Karli in southwest Maharashtara. Kudal is the fourth largest town in Sindhudurg after Sawantwadi, Malvan and Kankavli. As of 2011, the population is 16,015. Kudal supports one MIDC area in the Konkan division. The Kudal railway station is located on the Konkan Railway route and connects the town with Mumbai (Bombay) metro situated in the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway of the north, and Mangalore on the south. It is a major stop for the Konkan Railway with many trains having a halt. The Deccan Odyssey train also stops in Kudal. National Highway 66 passes through Kudal. Apart from that, it also has two bus stations, a new one and old one. The old one is situated in market while the new one is just adjacent to the NH-66. Sindhudurg district (Marathi pronunciation: in̪d̪ʱud̪uɾɡ is an administrative district of the Konkan division in India, which was carved out of the erstwhile Ratnagiri district. The district headquarters are located at Oros and the district occupies an area of approximately 5,207 km and has a population of 849,651, of which 12.59% were urban (as of 2011). As of 2011, it's the least populous district of Maharashtra (out of 36). Nerur, Maharashtra
Nerur is a town of Kudal Taluka of Sindhudurg district (Sindhudurga in native Malvani language) of Maharashtra in India. It is one of the smaller towns in the district having 32 wadis. The Malvani dialect of Konkani is spoken here. Nerur is becoming an attraction amongst Indian and foreign tourists from Mumbai and Goa. Konkan
The Konkan ( kok, कोंकण) or Kokan () is a stretch of land by the western coast of India, running from Damaon in the north to Karwar in the south; with the Arabian Sea to the west and the Deccan plateau in the east. National Highway 66 (India)
National Highway 66, commonly referred to as NH 66 (erstwhile NH-17 and a part of NH-47), is a mostly 4 lane long busy National Highway that runs roughly north–south along the western coast of India, parallel to the Western Ghats. It connects Panvel (a city south of Mumbai) to Cape Comorin (Kanyakumari), passing through the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The highway is undergoing a major overhaul in Karnataka, where the state government has accepted the NHAI's request of international standard, 60-metre-wide national highway with grade separators. The complete stretch from the Goa border (near Karwar) to the Kerala border (near Talapady) is being widened to four lanes, with space to accommodate future expansion to six lanes. Desai (Hindi: देसाई) () is an Indian administrative, princely or honorary title and surname. Etymology The word is derived from the Sanskrit ''deśa'' (country) and ''svāmī'' (lord). Bombay, Baroda And Central India Railway
The Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway ( reporting mark BB&CI) was a company incorporated in 1855 to undertake the task of constructing railway lines between Bombay to the erstwhile Baroda State, that became the present-day Baroda (Vadodara) city in western India. BB&CI completed the work in 1864. The first suburban railway in India was started by BB&CI, operating between Virar and Churchgate (later extended to Colaba), a railway station in Bombay Backbay in April 1867. The railway was divided into two main systems, broad (5 ft. 6 in.) and metre gauge. There was also a comparatively small mileage of 2 ft. 6 in. gauge line worked by the BB&CI on behalf of the Indian States. Jatra (Maharashtra)
Jatra or Urus are annual festivals held in a large number of villages in the Indian state of Maharashtra during the months of January to May. These may be in honour of the village Hindu deity (Gram devta) or the tomb (''dargah'') of a local Sufi ''pir''. In some instances, the holy man in the tomb is revered under different names by Hindus and Muslims. Apart from religious observations, celebrations may include bullock-cart racing, kabbadi, wrestling tournaments, a fair and entertainment such as a lavani/tamasha show by travelling dance troupes. A number of families eat meat preparations only during this period. In some villages, women are given a break from cooking and other household chores by their menfolk. Maratha Empire
The Maratha Empire, also referred to as the Maratha Confederacy, was an early modern Indian confederation that came to dominate much of the Indian subcontinent in the 18th century.
